NextImg:Boston weather: More snow possible in the week ahead

Boston will likely see more precipitation and snow in the coming week, according to National Weather Service forecasts.

“Overall, this next week looks to be pretty active, aside from like (Monday) through Tuesday, which are just supposed to be cold,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Candice Hrencecin.

Boston will start the week with up to four to five inches of snow on the ground from the weekend snowfall, Hrencecin said, which was slightly less than the forecasted precipitation. The week will kick off with high temps in the low 30s through the mid-week, according to NWS forecasts, meaning the powder coating is likely to stick around.

Lows through the end of the work week are expected to remain chillier in the teens to mid-20s, according to the weather service

“It may be a bit breezy (Monday), particularly, to start the week,” said Hrencecin. “And then looking, our next chance for some possible wintry precipitation might be coming Wednesday night to Thursday.”

Forecasts show a slight chance of precipitation Tuesday night, with little to no snow accumulation expected, NWS predicts.

By Wednesday night, NWS forecasts snow mainly after 8 p.m. continuing through Thursday morning. The high Thursday is expected to reach 39 degrees, and the snow is forecast to transition into rain around 11 a.m.

Winds Thursday day through the night may reach gusts up to 21 miles per hour, NWS forecasts. Gusts may kick up again during the weekend, according to forecasts, with gusts reaching up to 21 miles per hour again on Sunday.

“Then you have a brief dry period again on Friday, Saturday,” Hrencecin said. “And then Saturday night through Monday morning, we might have another round of unsettled weather.”

Saturday night through Sunday the snow “could be heavy at times,” the NWS forecasts state.
