The Boston woman considered a “person of interest” in connection with the death of a 65-year-old man on a houseboat in Charlestown has been charged with his murder.
The Boston Police Department has charged Nora Nelson, 24, with the murder of Joseph Donohue, obtaining an arrest warrant from Boston Municipal Court in Charlestown on Thursday, according to authorities.
Nelson has been in custody on unrelated domestic violence charges after BPD arrested her at a Charlestown marina Sunday night. Officers responded around 10:43 p.m. to investigate an incident on a houseboat, where they found Donohue dead.
Nelson is slated to be arraigned on a “later date.”
Boston Police identified Donohue Wednesday and said that he was found suffering from multiple stab wounds and that the death was ruled a homicide.
“Our family is heartbroken by this unimaginable loss,” Donohue’s family said in a statement following the announcement. “Joe was a wonderful family member, a cherished friend, and a trusted colleague.”
“Always generous and kind,” the family added, “he dedicated his life and career to helping others. He is loved and will be deeply missed. We’re grateful for the love and support we’ve received, and we kindly ask for privacy during this difficult time.”
On Tuesday, prosecutor Amelia Singh described Nelson as a “person of interest” in Donohue’s death during her arraignment on the unrelated domestic violence and assault and battery charges.
Judge Steven Key ordered Nelson held on $7,500 cash bail. Singh requested more bail — $100,000 — since Nelson previously failed to appear on the unrelated offenses.
Police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact homicide detectives or to submit information anonymously through the CrimeStoppers tip line at 1-800-494-TIPS (8477) or by texting the word TIP to CRIME (27463).
