The woman accused of violently stabbing a Boston lawyer to death on his houseboat in Charlestown last weekend is being held without bail after it was revealed in court records that she lied to police that the victim had “gone to the Golden Banana” strip club.
Nora Nelson, 24, of Boston, was arraigned on a murder charge at the Charlestown Division of Boston Municipal Court today. Judge Steven Kim continued the case to March 6.
The Boston Police Department charged Nelson with the murder of 65-year-old Joseph Donohue on Thursday, days after authorities arrested the woman at a Charlestown marina on unrelated domestic violence offenses.
Police responded late Sunday night to a houseboat on Shipway Place after receiving a well-being check requested by Donohue’s son who hadn’t heard from his father in days.
An “evasive” Nelson greeted officers, providing a false name and contradictory statements, according to a prosecutor in court on Friday.
Nelson allegedly told officers that the victim had been at the Golden Banana strip club in Peabody and he would “be back in a few hours,” a report states. Family members told police that the woman had told them Donohue had “gone to the store.”
A Boston police officer called the Golden Banana but the strip club could not assist because they “could not verify” a police officer was on the phone.
Officers reported that they then found Donohue wrapped and duct-taped into a rug and blanket inside the boathouse, while dumbbells had been tied around him, a police report states. They also discovered one of Donohue’s two dogs floating in the water nearby.
