Boston firefighters rescued two residents from a heavy fire late Sunday night before the firefighters quickly knocked down the Dorchester blaze.

Twelve residents have been displaced following the 2-alarm blaze at 309 Adams St., and one of the residents was transported to a hospital by Boston EMS.

At around midnight, firefighters responded to the heavy fire on the third floor of the three-family building.

“Companies were able to rescue 2 residents from the 3rd floor,” Boston Fire tweeted. “One resident was rescued using a 35 foot ground ladder and the other was rescued by the aerial ladder.”

“A great job by the 1st due companies to get multiple lines and ladders to the building to contain the fire to the 3rd floor, and rescue the residents,” the fire department added. “The heavy fire and smoke was quickly knocked down.”

Damages were estimated at more than $500,000 following the fire.

The Red Cross of Massachusetts and neighborhood assistance responded to help the displaced residents.

“Great work overnight by our members of Local 718 during the 2-Alarm fire on Adams Street in Dorchester,” tweeted Boston Firefighters Local 718 IAFF. “Two residents were rescued over ladders from the 3rd floor and the fire was quickly contained and knocked down. Just another prime example of the hard work and life saving actions that the men and women of @BostonFire do on a daily basis.”
