FOXBORO — The Patriots have one less thing to worry about as they get ready for training camp practices to being Wednesday morning.
Starting defensive tackle Lawrence Guy, who skipped mandatory minicamp, has reported for training camp, ESPN reported Tuesday morning. Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was hopeful Tuesday morning that the circumstances that kept Guy out of minicamp — a situation reportedly believed to be “contract related,” per ESPN — were resolved.
“It’s football season,” Belichick said. “Most football players play football in football season.”
Belichick provided updates on other key prospective starters, as well. Offensive tackle Trent Brown, who didn’t attend voluntary organized team activities, had a late arrival to minicamp and was limited in his only spring practice, was an early arrival for training camp.
“He’s been here the last four days,” Belichick said. “He looks ready to go.”
Belichick also said wide receivers JuJu Smith-Schuster and Tyquan Thornton were at the facility early and appear ready to go for practice.
Smith-Schuster, an offseason free-agent addition, never practiced in front of reporters this spring. Thornton also missed time with an apparent injury during OTAs and minicamp.
The two wideouts will be competing for snaps with DeVante Parker, Kendrick Bourne, rookies Demario Douglas and Kayshon Boutte and tight end Mike Gesicki.
Brown is the Patriots’ projected starter at left tackle, though the team brought in veterans Riley Reiff and Calvin Anderson this offseason. The Patriots also selected offensive lineman Sidy Sow in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
