Bill Belichick is coming to a screen near you.
Belichick and the North Carolina football team will reportedly star in the next offseason installment of “Hard Knocks,” an HBO series that annually takes viewers behind the scenes of NFL franchises. The program added an offseason spin-off last year, following the Giants through free agency and the draft. However, no NFL team volunteered to appear this offseason, which led the showrunners to the college ranks for the first time.
North Carolina general manager Michael Lombardi confirmed the school had been in talks with HBO, but stopped short of confirming the initial repot from Front Office Sports.
“We’ve had a lot of offers from people all over to come in and look at our program and kind of do the behind-the-scenes things, but I don’t think anything’s yet been official or signed,” Lombardi told The Pat McAfee Show.
Belichick accepted the head-coaching job at North Carolina last December, a move that stunned the football world despite little reported interest from NFL teams in his return. Belichick signed a five-year deal with a base annual salary of $10 million, but guaranteed money only in the first three seasons. He has since spent most of the Tar Heels’ offseason recruiting and remaking the roster with Lombardi, a former lieutenant during his head-coaching stops in Cleveland and New England.
