NextImg:Battenfeld: Immigration disaster could spell doom for Biden re-election

An escalating immigration disaster is threatening to derail President Biden’s re-election bid and hand the White House back to Donald Trump next year.

With thousands of migrants pouring across the southern border every day, it’s about to get even worse as a pandemic-era rule allowing authorities to expel illegal migrants expires this Thursday at 11:59 p.m.

Massachusetts and other states across the country are bracing for the storm to arrive on their streets and in their shelters, while Biden appears oblivious to the political peril.

This is why Trump’s critics can find him liable for defamation but the court of public opinion will hold Biden liable for the pending immigration collapse.

There is no system in place to assist these migrants, most of whom are without money, food or shelter. Even liberal states like Massachusetts cannot handle them. State agencies and non-profits will be swamped.

It’s not even fair to the migrants coming over here and being shuttled around like luggage from motel to motel.

They will be looking for jobs and there are no good jobs. They will be looking for services and find that states already spending hundreds of millions extra can’t afford them.

The situation is much worse at the Mexican border. Hundreds of U.S. troops arrived at the border on Wednesday to handle the expected surge of what’s always called in the media the expiration of the “Trump era” border restriction policy.

Laredo, Texas Mayor Victor Trevino told CNN that he’s preparing “as if it’s a hurricane coming.”
Yes, the policy did date to Trump but it was the only thing allowing the feds to expel migrants from crossing. Trump will boast about that at his CNN town hall Wednesday night – not run away from it.

Trump is now seven points ahead of Biden in the latest 2024 matchup poll as the former president faces legal challenges coming at him from Democrats.

The Democrats’ only strategy appears to be going after Trump legally in the hope of somehow keeping him from running again.

It won’t work.

In addition to the immigration crisis, many Americans can no longer afford to buy cars, homes and even groceries – and the economy could get worse. Biden will get blamed for that.

The Democratic president’s only hope for saving face now is a complete collapse from Trump or for him to gracefully bow out of the race before it gets worse.

But even, then who would replace Biden? Kamala Harris?

It won’t get much easier for Dems.
