The storied Allston music venue Great Scott will finally return, ownership announced four years after the community staple closed its doors.

“We’re coming home, Allston,” the Great Scott Instagram account posted on Tuesday. “Great Scott, the legendary live music venue that has been a cornerstone of Boston’s music scene since 1976, is set to make a highly anticipated return just up Harvard Ave from its original location.”

The beloved Allston music venue closed in 2020 due to the pandemic after over 40 years as a staple in the Boston music scene and was replaced by a Taco Bell Cantina. The 240-capacity venue hosted many locals as well as rising stars including Jack Harlow, MGMT, Phoebe Bridgers and Charli XCX.

Following its closure, locals fought for its return, ownership said, compiling an over 25,000-signature petition and raising over $300,000. Ownership was held up trying to find “the right spot,” the announcement post said.

The new location allowed the ownership to buy the venue and be the landlord, the Great Scott post stated. The Great Scott’s long-time booking manager Carl Lavin, Redefined CEO Paul Armstrong and Jordan Warshaw of the Noannet Group were involved in the purchase.

The property will also host the venue’s “long-time sister club” O’Brien’s Pub and provide additional retail space and rental housing.

“The new club will retain the intimacy and feel of the original venue, but with behind-the-scenes improvements such as modern back-of-house facilities and state-of-the-art sound and lighting to attract the best local and touring talent,” the post stated.

The property will also host the venue’s “long-time sister club” O’Brien’s Pub and provide additional retail space and rental housing, the post stated, “ensuring that Great Scott and O’Brien’s Pub remain cultural landmarks in Allston for decades to come.”
