The job security of offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt remains one of the Patriots’ biggest offseason questions.

Van Pelt has received recent support from Maye, tight end Hunter Henry and running back Antonio Gibson, among others, to return next season.

“I would love to be back. I really like our organization. I like our guys,” Van Pelt said. “There’s stuff to build on there, but again, that’s out of my control.”

The Patriots’ offense has improved since last season and throughout the year under Van Pelt.

He explained the value of maintaining the same offensive system, especially with a young talented quarterback. The Patriots have had four offensive coordinators in four years with Josh McDaniels serving the role in 2021, Matt Patricia in 2022 and Bill O’Brien in 2023.

“If you look at the quarterback development over the years, the Hall of Fame guys have been in systems that are similar and the same year after year after year, and that just builds that knowledge that you have in the system in many different levels,” Van Pelt said. “I think it’s important for consistency and continuity, especially for younger players to stay within a system.”

Tom Brady was within the same system throughout his Patriots career, though the coordinators changed from Charlie Weis to McDaniels, to O’Brien and back to McDaniels.
