A police officer was reportedly attacked Thursday morning, according to police who arrested an alleged Roxbury thief accused of throwing a cup of coffee at the cop’s face.

Two people were arrested following the reported assault at 36 District Ave., the address of Starbucks at the South Bay shopping center.

The Boston Police officer was on a paid detail when he reportedly saw the suspects “exhibiting aggressive behavior towards store staff and vandalizing store property,” police said.

They were identified as Amari Robinson, 30, of Roxbury, and April Payne, 52, of Dorchester.

“When the officer intervened, the suspects turned their aggression towards him, assaulting him and striking him multiple times,” police said. “Robinson further escalated the situation by throwing a cup of coffee at the officer’s face.”

Officers rushed to the scene, and the suspects were arrested.

The injured cop was treated by EMS, and he was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

Both suspects were charged with malicious destruction of property, and assault and battery on a police officer.

Robinson faces an additional charge of larceny from a building for allegedly stealing cash from a tip jar.

Both suspects are scheduled to appear for arraignment at South Boston District Court.
