On January 18, 2024, former President Donald called on the Supreme Court to guarantee that his name appear on election ballots nationwide. He warned that “chaos and bedlam” would ensue if the justices do not reverse the Colorado Supreme Court decision, which disqualified the former president due to his actions on and leading up to January 6, 2021.
Trump’s legal counsel requested that the justices put a “swift and decisive end” to attempts in over 30 states to take him off primary and general election ballots based on a section of the 14th Amendment that prevents individuals who have engaged in insurrectionist activity from holding higher office.
Trump’s lawyer Jonathan Mitchell argued that attempts to remove Trump from the 2024 election “threaten to disenfranchise tens of millions of Americans” and “promise to unleash chaos and bedlam if other state courts and state officials follow Colorado’s lead.”
Trump, himself, told reporters that if criminal charges against him lead to his ouster as a presidential candidate, “it’ll be bedlam in the country. It’s a very bad thing. It’s a very bad precedent. As we said, it’s the opening of a Pandora’s box.”
Indeed, what Trump is saying is 100% true. Any successful effort to completely remove him from the presidential ballot will open up a Pandora’s Box of political dysfunction that could put America on an accelerated path to Banana Republic dysfunction.
Patriotic Americans who believe in the rule of law and want to maintain its republican institutions should do everything possible to help the Trump team stave off these persecution attempts.
