Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows recently disqualified former President Donald Trump from the state’s presidential primary ballot.

Maine is following in Colorado’s footsteps to prohibit the former president from running for re-election for allegedly fomenting an insurrection that would result in the overturning of the 2020 presidential election.

On December 28, 2023,  Maine Secretary of state Shenna Bellows declared that Trump must be kicked out of the 2024 Republican primary in her state. She argued that Trump was not qualified to be US president under the 14th amendment of the US constitution, which bans individuals who have engaged in insurrection from holding office.

On top of that, the former president is tackling a series of legal cases, which includes two indictments at the federal and state level accusing him of trying to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.

In the months approaching the January 6, 2021 storming of the US Capitol, Trump allegedly “used a false narrative of election fraud to inflame his supporters and direct them to the Capitol to prevent certification of the 2020 election and the peaceful transfer of power”, declared Bellows.

She continued by noting that Trump “was aware of the likelihood for violence and at least initially supported its use given he both encouraged it with incendiary rhetoric and took no timely action to stop it.”

Trump’s campaign said Bellows, a Democrat, “decided to interfere in the presidential election” and that it would “quickly file a legal objection” against this “atrocious decision” in Maine’s state court. Lawyers representing Trump did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

On December 28, Bellows put her decision on hold until the Maine Supreme Court issues a ruling on a potential appeal or the time to challenge her decision ends up expiring.

“I do not reach this conclusion lightly,” Bellows declared. “Democracy is sacred . . . I am mindful that no secretary of state has ever deprived a presidential candidate of ballot access”  by turning to the 14th amendment. “I am also mindful, however, that no presidential candidate has ever before engaged in insurrection,” she continued.

.Democrats nationwide are scared of Trump and the movement he represents. So they’re pulling all stops to ensure that voters are deprived of a national populist option during the 2024 election cycle.

Such moves, especially the one made by Bellows, need to be struck down by the Supreme Court. Moreover, Bellows and her ilk must be punished for their subversion.

We can no longer afford to tolerate the Left’s brazen trampling of our rights and constitutional practices. This behavior must be stamped out via all the legal mechanisms at our disposal.
