On June 25, 2024, Colorado Congresswoman Lauren Boebert won her primary for former Congressman Ken Buck’s seat in district 4. Boebert chose to switch from her previous seat in district 3 after facing a tough 2022 general election campaign against Adam Frisch. She won this election by a narrow 50.1% to 49.9%.

Boebert did not run for the special election in Buck’s district that would last for the rest of Buck’s time in office. Greg Lopez, who was the Republican nominated for the special election, did not run for the full term. Had Boebert thrown her hat in the ring for the special election, it would have created a special election for her own seat in district 3.

District 4 is viewed as a safe Republican seat. While district 3 is now seen as a much more competitive house district.

Boebert put herself on the map in 2020, when she pulled off an upset against then-incumbent Congressman Scott Tipton by running on a pro-gun and immigration restriction platform. She won that race by a 54.5%-45.4% margin.

After that victory, organizations such as Gun Owners of America have thrown their support behind her. Since being elected, Boebert has been a conservative firebrand in the House who is willing to take on the GOP establishment.
