Anti-gun Democrats in Colorado are pushing a liability insurance mandate for the state’s gun owners that would subject them to this regulation even if they keep a firearm at home for the purpose of self-defense.

Per a FOX News report,  the insurance mandate creates a circumstance where “failure to buy the extra coverage would face a $500 fine for the first offense and $1,000 for the second.”

A report from the Denver Gazette highlighted that the requirement is being put forward by State Representatives Steven Woodrow and Iman Jodeh, and State Senator Chris Hanson.

The Gazette noted that the insurance requirement contains exceptions for individuals who do not earn enough money to afford it with respect to how it “permits a person who was denied firearm liability insurance by 2 or more insurers or a person who is indigent and cannot afford the insurance to petition a court for an order declaring that the person is excused from the firearm liability insurance requirement.”

The elected officials described the legislation as “gun control by another name,” highlighting that it functions as a firearm tax for individuals who can afford to pay it.

Colorado is one of the most anti-gun states in the Union, standing at 38th place in Guns & Ammo magazine’s best states for gun owners rankings. The passage of this legislation will only solidify the Rocky Mountain state’s anti-gun Second Amendment status. Such regulations are designed to price out everyday gun owners out of the gun market.

At some point, these individuals will be totally deprived of the option of owning firearms altogether because of how cost prohibitive this practice will be or due to the mass shutdown of gun stores, owing to massive gun control regulations. For that reason, gun owners must constantly stand against these gradualist forms of gun grabs.
