Leftwing Hamas-supporters in America are telling us that the mass slaughter of children and rape of women is just "what decolonization looks like."
Meanwhile, every leftwinger in America, from antifa transexual street-thugs to university professors, have been calling for "decolonization" in the United States. They've been calling for "decolonization" of all whites, straights, Jews, Christians, normies -- anyone except the core privileged groups of the left.
So they're calling for our murder and rape. After all, this is what decolonization looks like.
A couple of articles about this:
On Saturday, as the raping and murdering and kidnapping were happening in Israel, Najma Sharif, a writer for Soho House magazine and Teen Vogue, posted on X: "What did y'all think decolonization meant? vibes? papers? essays? losers."
So far, Sharif's post has been liked 100,000 times and reposted nearly 23,000 times--by, among others, The Washington Post's global opinions editor, Karen Attiah.
The point was: Don't be squeamish. Never mind the Jewish girl being pulled by her hair with blood streaming between her legs. Never mind the women being raped beside the corpses of their friends at a music festival. Never mind the children and babies snatched from their parents.
If you can't handle it, if you condemn it without a preamble or equivocation, you're an apologist for the Zionist colonizers.
All this is a good reminder that when people say something, they often mean it, and we should believe them, or at least take them seriously. Fancy-sounding academic jargon is not a curious intellectual exercise. Words make worlds.
Here is how Quillette editor Claire Lehmann put it on X, formerly Twitter: "For the past decade I've been told that jokes, words & scholarly debates need to be suppressed because they may cause 'harm' to vulnerable minorities. Yet when a global minority is butchered, tortured & maimed, those who suppress words shrug as if war crimes are no big deal."
Real decolonization is a physical process. It is about removing bodies from a place.
The meaning of Sharif's post--a very tidy, very millennial encapsulation of the old Bolshevik spirit--is: the ends shall justify the means, and if that bothers you, well, you've probably been infected by some bourgeois, liberal fungus.
Nor was she alone.
"And as you might have seen, there was some sort of rave or desert party where they were having a great time until the resistance came in electrified hang gliders and took at least several dozen hipsters," a speaker at a Democratic Socialists of America rally in New York proclaimed to whoops and laughter. (DSA members include representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Jamaal Bowman, Rashida Tlaib, and Ilhan Omar.)
As John Sexton writes, even leftwing propagandist Michelle Goldberg is finally noticing what "decolonization" actually means.
Oh, she's no hero. She was all in favor of decolinization so long as it was other people being "decolonized." She'd call you a racist for opposing such an obviously-commendable project.
But she's Jewish, so now she has to take a position on whether she wants her very good BLM and antifa friends to "decolonize" her.
On Tuesday evening, I was drinking on the porch of my friend and neighbor Misha Shulman, the Israel-born rabbi of a progressive New York synagogue called the New Shul. All day, he'd been on the phone with congregants deeply distraught over the massacres and mass kidnappings in Israel. Of all the people he spoke to, he said, those most devastated were either people who had lost close friends or family, or young Jews "completely shattered by the response of their lefty friends in New York," who were either justifying Hamas's atrocities or celebrating them outright.
...the way keyboard radicals have condoned war crimes against Israelis has left many progressive Jews alienated from political communities they thought were their own.
Sexton notes dryly that Goldberg is forever focused on what really matters: The rightwingers that she is in favor of "decolonizing" will be able to take victory laps about this on Twitter!
No! Anything but that!
Conservatives reading this might take a jaundiced satisfaction in what some surely view as naive progressives getting their comeuppance. But part of what makes the depravity of the edgelord anti-imperialists so tragic is that a decent and functional left has rarely been more necessary.
After spending time worrying that the right might get some likes on Twitter posts, she returns to the secondary, less-important matter of her friends of the left actively calling for the rape and murder of people like her.
On Thursday, Students for Justice in Palestine, a network of pro-Palestinian campus groups, is holding Day of Resistance demonstrations across the United States and Canada. A planning document the group posted online refers to all of Israel as a "settler colony" and says, "Settlers are not 'civilians' in the sense of international law, because they are military assets used to ensure continued control over stolen Palestinian land."
Perhaps such hideous dogmatism shouldn't be surprising. The left has always attracted certain people who relish the struggle against oppression primarily for the way it licenses their own cruelty... Che Guevara didn't become a dorm room icon only for his motorcycle and rakish beret.
Oh, you finally noticed, did you? That's nice.
But I'm still a racist for having noticed all this before you, right? I was a "premature anti-decolonialist," huh?
Everyone calling for "decolonization" must be made to affirm or deny that "this is what decolonization looks like" and explain whether or not they intend to "decolonize" the US as their Hamas allies are "decolonizing" dance concerts in Israel.
And we can start with the Washington Post's terrorist-whore Karen Attiah, who explicitly endorsed the statement that the wholesale slaughter of civilians is exactly what decolonization looks like.
Hey FBI, thought you might want to know that there is a huge movement which has taken over the schools and most corporations expressly calling for the murder and rape of huge segments of the population.
So you will surely want to open an investigation of me for noticing this.
Just wanted to make sure you didn't miss me, with all of the investigations into Catholics and pro-life protesters you have on your plate.
According to the left, we're all settlers too -- we have to make "Land Acknowledgement" that we are standing on land stolen from the Indians.
So we're all valid targets for execution in the name of "anti-colonialism."
