THE MORNING RANT: How Will People React to the Imposition of Climate “Emergency Powers”?
In the midst of the Covid panic, government authorities at all levels were able to seize extraordinary emergency powers, up to and including the banning of worship, restrictions on travel, mandatory medical injections, suspension of debt repayment, and closure of “non-essential” businesses, among many other totalitarian power grabs.
It was a spectacularly successful test run for the upcoming declaration of a “climate emergency.”
Because eco-communism does not have enough political appeal to be enacted legislatively (except in a few very blue states), and since there is not enough support to pass it nationally in Congress, the declaration of a climate emergency is the avenue that is being pursued. It is a trump card that would suddenly empower climatistas at every level of government to assume dictatorial powers.
Just wait until you see which businesses and consumer products the climate communists decree “non-essential” once they are given their “emergency powers.”
Unsurprisingly, the same leftists constantly screaming about “threats to democracy” are passionate supporters of subverting democracy through emergency decrees.
Progressive lawmakers and activists are again imploring President Joe Biden to declare a climate emergency, citing the thick blanket of smoke from Canadian wildfires now shrouding the US Capitol and swaths of the Eastern seaboard.
When Covid sharia was implemented, a surgical mask became the mandated sign of obedience to those who had seized emergency powers. What will be the mandatory badge of obedience when the climate emergency is declared? I don’t know what it will be, but there will be one. A visible sign of submission to your oppressors has been established as a precedent.
All that said, I‘m almost wishing for the decree to happen. It would be a huge test for the future of our country.
There is such widespread disgust about the Covid excesses that there should be no expectation that the citizenry will willingly comply again. The scientific “experts” have proven themselves over and over to be partisan political frauds who fold, spindle, and mutilate actual science to make it fit their political agenda.
If there is once again widespread compliance with emergency powers in the name of “the climate crisis,” then there are not enough kicks from the mule to educate Americans on the destructive intents of those declaring emergencies. If so, we might as well give up on the concept of self-governance.
Also, and I’m sorry if I step on any toes, but it was a Republican President, Donald Trump, who was initially pushing Covid lockdowns. Trump empowered Fauci and Birx with incredible authority to recommend and compel compliance with outrageous Covid emergency powers. There will not be conservatives supporting another lockdown, because there won’t be a Republican president pushing lockdowns like Trump did.
If restrictions on our freedom are imposed under climate emergency orders, I believe that not only will people not willingly submit, but that they will enthusiastically defy them. And to be clear, I’m not talking about violent defiance, I’m just talking about what happens when a critical mass of people refuse to comply with prohibitions on how they live their lives.
When President Nixon (also a Republican, go figure) signed legislation enacting the national 55-mph speed limit, it also empowered virtually every police agency in the nation to harass people for doing what they’d always done. People did not take kindly to having their driving habits suddenly being criminalized. So they defied the law en masse. And they defied the police. And they defied the federal government that imposed this ridiculous law. Sadly for law enforcement, it took police a long time to regain the respect they lost for their role in the 55-mph era.
There is excitement and a newfound sense of empowerment among normal folks right now for how we have economically crippled Anheuser Busch as punishment for its offensive political activism, proving that America has a lot of fight in it right now.
We are ready to fight back. Peacefully, but in large numbers. If President Biden tries to impose a climate emergency, America’s defiant non-compliance might be the punch back that finally makes the climate hoax a punch line.
Biden’s War on Appliances
I write a lot about the government trying to impose electric vehicles on those of us who don’t want them, but there is so much more in the way of modern appliances and conveniences that the Biden administration is trying to take away from us.
Susan Ferrechio at the Washington Times had a piece in May that I heard about, but I wasn’t able to read because it’s behind a paywall, and I don’t have a subscription. If you have a subscription, here is the link.
Friend-of-the-blog Jim Lakely at the Heartland Institute made a video where he discusses some of the highlights of Ms. Ferrechio’s column, discussing the many new regulations from the Biden administration, while adding some color of his own.
Just in case you’re curious, it’s not just your gas stove they’re coming after, they’re coming after your electric appliances too, including your washing machine, dishwasher, and refrigerator. They are even proposing new regulations to make your electric toothbrush more environmentally responsible. You will pay much more for appliances that perform much worse, all for the purpose of producing a nominal energy savings as an offering to the left’s angry climate god.
