NextImg:Surprise! ICE Confirms That the Man Who Murdered the Georgia Nursing Student Is an Illegal Alien Who Was Detained at the Border in 2022 -- And then Immediately "Paroled" Into the Country By Biden

Doing the murders Americans just won't do.

A nursing student in Georgia went out for a morning run. She was murdered. Her head was bashed in.

The killing of a nursing student in Georgia who was out running has shaken the university town of Athens.

Laken Hope Riley, 22, who was studying nursing at Augusta University, went out for a run Thursday morning. After a friend told police she had not returned, officers immediately began a search and found her body on the University of Georgia campus in a forested area near Lake Herrick that includes trails popular with runners and walkers.

Emergency medical responders determined she died before officers found her. University of Georgia Police Chief Jeff Clark said the cause of death was blunt force trauma, but he did not elaborate.

Jose Ibarra, 26, was taken into custody for the slaying of Riley on Friday, police said. Ibarra is not a U.S. citizen and is from Venezuela, but his immigration status is not yet known, said Clark, the university police chief.

Well, we now know his immigration status: he was an illegal alien. He was using a fraudulent green card.

Furthermore, even though he was detained when he illegally crossed the border, he was "paroled" by Joe Biden into the country.

This happened in 2022. Watch Karine Jean-Pierre claim this is Trump's fault.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has confirmed that Jose Antonio Ibarra, the suspect in the murder of a Georgia nursing student, entered the U.S. illegally and had previously been arrested in New York City. Ibarra, a Venezuelan national, is charged with the murder of 22-year-old Laken Riley on the University of Georgia campus.

Key Details:

Ibarra entered the U.S. illegally near El Paso in September 2022 and was paroled into the U.S.

He was arrested by the New York Police Department on Sept. 14, 2023, and charged with acting in a manner to injure a child less than 17 and a motor vehicle license violation.

Despite ICE's usual practice of lodging a detainer for removable illegal immigrants arrested on criminal charges, Ibarra was released before a detainer could be issued.

Diving Deeper:

ICE's statement confirmed that Ibarra was encountered by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on Sept. 8, 2022, after entering near El Paso and Released on parole and pending additional processing. A year later, Ibarra was arrested by the New York Police Department and charged with acting in a manner to injure a child less than 17 and a motor vehicle license violation. However, Ibarra was released before a detainer could be issued, as New York City is a "sanctuary city," which generally restricts law enforcement from complying with ICE detainers.

Republicans are demanding the border be secured.

Last week's killing of a nursing student on the University of Georgia campus, allegedly carried out by a man who was in the country illegally, has sparked a new debate about immigration reform among state legislators.

Why it matters: Republican lawmakers say they will consider new measures after the arrest of Jose Antonio Ibarra, who is from Venezuela and not a U.S. citizen, in connection with the death of 22-year-old Laken Riley.

What they're saying: Gov. Brian Kemp on Saturday pinned blame for the country's immigration policies on President Biden, and called on the White House to release immigration information about Ibarra.

Congressman Mike Collins, R-Athens, and Republican Insurance Commissioner John King, Georgia's first Hispanic statewide elected official, both called for Congress to pass reforms.

The Georgia House of Representatives would explore "ways to strengthen the security of our state, enhance public safety and act where the federal government has failed to do so," Speaker Jon Burns, R-Newington said.

Atlanta Democratic state Sens. Jason Esteves and Elena Parent urged politicians not to politicize Riley's death.

But CNN claims there is "little evidence" connecting the murderer with Biden's open border policies.

CNN reported there was "little evidence" linking illegal immigration and crime after a Venezuelan migrant was charged in connection with the murder of a 22-year-old Georgia nursing student.

Laken Riley, an Augusta University nursing student, was found dead Thursday on the University of Georgia campus with signs of blunt force trauma after setting out for a jog that morning. Murder suspect 26-year-old Jose Antonio Ibarra had crossed into the U.S. illegally near El Paso in September 2022 and was paroled into the U.S., officials confirmed Sunday.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) also confirmed that the suspect had also been arrested last year in New York by the NYPD and "charged with acting in a manner to injure a child less than 17 and a motor vehicle license violation."

However, CNN repeatedly discounted any connection between the suspect's immigration status and crime in a Monday report.

"Ibarra's status as an undocumented Venezuelan migrant is now being touted by several state and national GOP leaders to support their calls for tighter border security -- though there is little evidence indicating a connection between immigration and crime," the outlet reported.

"Touted."
