Ed Piskor is -- was -- a comics artist and a cohost of a comics YouTube show called Cartoonist Kayfabe.
He's apparently a leftwing guy. When Ethan Van Sciver's brother Noah -- who is also a cartoonist -- attempted to take a picture with him, Piskor refused and said he would not be photographed with any Van Scivers.
He's not any kind of hero but I guess can be counted as a martyr for the leftwing cause.
Last week, a woman alleged that Piskor had flirted with her inappropriately when she was then 17 (and Piskor knew that).
The woman withheld all of the tweets, which I suspect she did to conceal the fact that she was flirting herself.
Yes, I know it's still wrong. Not illegal, technically, as the age of consent in Pennsylvania (where both were located) is 16.
And the DMs were not horrible. But he did call her a "naughty girl" and offer her a couch to sleep on if she ever traveled to his city.
Later, an adult woman, who apparently Piskor had been sleeping with on and off for years, decided to jump on the #MeToo cancellation train and allege that Piskor had offered to get her in touch with his own agent, but only if she gave him oral sex.
At this point all of the predictable #cancelers in the comics industry demanded that all of his friends turn away from him. Some people went to a local gallery that was to exhibit his work and demanded they cancel his show; they did.
Local media went to his elderly parents' home and demanded they answer questions about his son sending inappropriate but not illegal DMs three years ago.
His co-host on Cartoonist Kayfabe announced that he was ending his "professional association" with Piskor.
Well, earlier today, Piskor posted a suicide note to FaceBook:
I'm so sorry for being so stupid. I definitely should never have talked with Molly D. The language and optics look real dumb at best but I promise my innocence. Especially out of context it looks terrible. It was the height of Covid with no end in sight and I was alone through most of it . I was just happy to have the internet to talk to people with common interests.
He further explains some of the inappropriate DMs. You can read the whole thing here.
...
Then seeing these dms even further out of context on other news outlets and media sites. Matt P at the [Pittsburgh] city paper, you know what you did to skew your narrative. Fuck you. But they surely gave themselves their own plausible deniability by asking me for comments right as I'm trying not to jump off a bridge or something.
Molly Wright [the woman who emerged to claim he'd said he'd give her his agent's number if she gave him oral sex] is a conundrum to me and her actions border criminal. He said/ she said never looks good but none of what she said happened and I can't believe she'd be so malicious and pile on like this... I never was interested in a relationship with her. We had sex twice and she initiated both times....
More like that, which I'll leave you to read, if you want to.
He then talks about how nothing was more important to him than comics, which he's now been canceled from.
...
Now it's all gone. Art show evaporated. Was about to sign a $75k deal for Switchblade Shorties with Abrams, Cartoonist Kayfabe ends with Jimmy's "shocking revelations" statement (those words hurt).
That's the co-host of the show, Jim Rugg, who announced he was ending his "professional association" with Ed Piskor over these "shocking revelations."
I have no friends in this life any longer. I'm a disappointment to everybody who liked me. I'm a pariah. News organizations at my door and hassling my elderly parents. It's too much. Putting our addresses on tv and the internet.
Some good people reached out and tried to help me through this whole thing but I'm just not strong enough. The instinctual part of my brain knows that I'm no longer part of the tribe. I'm exiled and banished. I'm giving into my instincts and fighting them at the same time. Self preservation has lost out.
People are social animals and when they're cast out of pack, they often think of just walking into the woods. He continues like that. I don't want to quote more of his suicide note. Except, at the end, he blasts the #Cancelers who drove him to suicide, by name. These are the same people who join in every single cancel mob and who work to gatekeep conservatives out of comics:
There were so many out there waiting in the wings for something like this to emerge. Daryl Ayo Braithwait called it a kill shot. You all got your wish. You were waiting for something to blow out of proportion and it got served to you on a silver platter. Ramon Villalobos, Cam Del Rosario, JB Roe, Molly Wright, congratulations.
You got your pound of flesh. Evan Dorkin, I hope skeletons from your closet get revealed someday. Alex DeCampi, may you continue to have zero success no matter how hard you continuously leverage other people's business from your bully pulpit.
Alex DeCampi is involved in every comics cancellation and is always, as Piskor says, attempting to leverage her way into jobs she shouldn't have by just letting it be known that if you're on her s*** list, she can and will destroy you. Fake comic book "journalist" Heidi McDonald had her shit leftwing website join in. In case you're wondering why lefties would try to get another lefty to kill himself: This is just sport for them. Plus, every white male removed from the hierarchy creates another space for a leftwing woman or minority to move into! The accusations began this past weekend, when a young female-presenting cartoonist, whose name we are not publishing here, shared screenshots of DMs with Piskor via Instagram Stories.
Female presenting. Heidi McDonald doesn't want to commit the grave sin of Assuming a Woman Is In Fact a Woman, but she will beckon someone to the grave. The rest of the letter is concerned with telling his parents how to dispose of his property and things like that. His sister has confirmed that he is dead. Ethan Van Sciver said that his idea he'd get vengeance on his tormentors with his suicide is just wrong; they're evil people who routinely do this in hopes that their targets will commit suicide. They're proud of this. They're counting this as a big win. Cancellation has consequences. Everyone I know who's been cancelled, and has talked about it, has reported having suicidal thoughts. But the cancelers will continue cancelling. As I said: This is the goal they are seeking. They don't want anyone coming back from a cancellation. They hate when people come back, even if just a little, from a cancellation. They want the cancellation to be PERMANENT. And that means: They want the suicide. They want the body. Suicide isn't really ever vengeance. Living well is the best revenge. Every setback is the first stage of a comeback.
