This is what an Alzheimer's Charm Offensive looks like.
Karen Townsend from Hot Air: Biden says Republican lawmakers, meaning those who oppose giving money to Ukraine without defending our own border, are worse than Strom Thurmond and hardcore "racists."
From Axios:
"I've been a senator since '72. I've served with real racists. I've served with Strom Thurmond," Biden said at a fundraiser in San Francisco, according to a White House pool report.
"But guess what? These guys are worse. These guys do not believe in basic democratic principles," the president continued.
Biden said Thurmond did "terrible things," but "at least you could work with some of these guys," adding: "Time and again Republicans show they are the party of chaos and division."
Jazz Shaw: Biden's inviting four congressional leaders -- two left-liberal Democrats, the Democrat-aligned Mitch McConnell, and Speaker Johnson -- to talk with them about Ukraine aid.
In other words, Biden doesn't think he can pressure Johnson using his own force of personality so he's put together a Balanced Media Panel of three liberals and one conservative to bully the conservative.
The AP:
President Joe Biden will convene the top four congressional leaders at the White House on Tuesday to press lawmakers on passing an emergency aid package for Ukraine and Israel, as well as averting a looming government shutdown next month, according to a White House official.
The top four leaders include House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.
During the meeting, the president will discuss the "urgency" of passing the aid package, which has bipartisan support, as well as legislation to keep the federal government operating through the end of September, said the White House official, who was granted anonymity to discuss a meeting not yet publicly confirmed.
