NextImg:Afternoon Break: Let Me Recommend Danger 5 To You (Particularly If You're a Man)

This show came out in 2011, and I've just gotten around to watching it. I'm Ace, your Hip and Fashion-Forward Internet Friend.

I wanted to mention this just to give everyone a break on the endless misery and also because it's about a topic that is more relevant today than it has been since 1945: Slaughtering Nazi scum by the chord.

It's a mix a blend of male action-adventure stories, of Gerry Anderson's "Supermarionation" kid-oriented TV shows of the 60s and 70s, cleavage-heavy softcore "action movies" they used to show on Cinemax, science-fiction and James Bond. Although it takes place during World War II, with every mission having the objective: "Kill Hitler," the fashions, music, and obsession with cocktails and bachelor-pad libations is taken from the swingin' sixties.

My passed friend steve_in_hb recommended it to me years ago, and I passed on it because it is the kind of "LOL WTF So Random" humor that was popular on the internet from around 2010 to 2012, and I didn't love that humor then and don't love it now. But the show is funny anyway.

And I like the stuff being parodied: I like very male-oriented over-the-top pulp action-adventure, so I even like the plots. Here are some episode titles, to give you a sense of the show:

The Diamond Girls

I Danced for Hitler

Lizard Soldiers of the Third Reich (it's about Nazi dinosaurs created by Josef Mengele, obviously)

Kill-Men of the Rising Sun

Hitler's Golden Murder Place

Fresh Meat for Hitler's Sex-Kitchen

I keep mentioning that it's "male-oriented" because every show in the first season features a location full of sexy girls -- sexy slave girls, sexy gladiator girls, sexy hypnotized sex-bots, etc.

If you want to see it's very available. All episodes are on YouTube, and right now it's also on Pluto.

However, if you watch on Pluto, they do not have the first episode, "episode 0," which was released on the internet in 2011 as a teaser/promotion for the show. But that's here on YouTube.

Then you can watch it on Pluto, or continue watching on YouTube.

It should also be on the Shout Factory app.

The second season is by the same writer/director but they change up the formula completely and get rid of two beloved characters and also swap the casting of a third. The second season is bad. So bad, in fact, that when I googled "Why is danger 5 season 2 so bad," it autocompleted the "so bad" for me.

If you like the show, you'll give season 2 a shot I'm sure, but if you get through episode 2 and start wondering "is this show ever going to get good again?," the answer is no, no it won't.

But season 1 is good.

Something to look out for: Colonel Chestbridge's absolute hatred of Claire's "busy mouth" during briefings. Best running joke in the show.
