Nothing is safe from the Taylor Swift effect. First, she infiltrated football; now, she’s coming for the voter’s booth.
In a recent poll conducted for Newsweek by Redfield and Wilton Strategies, 18 percent of eligible voters said they are “more likely” or “significantly more likely” to vote for whichever candidate Swift endorses for president. The poll, which surveyed 1,500 individuals, had almost the same percentage of voters — 17 percent — stated they would be “less likely” to vote for a Swift-backed candidate.
Of those surveyed, 45 percent claimed to be fans of Swift, who was Time’s 2023 Person of the Year. Swift’s endorsement is more likely to affect the decisions of voters under the age of 35.

Outrage at the poll quickly flared up on X. “You know the end is near when people rely on the opinion from a woman who built her entire career writing songs about choosing the wrong men,” snarked one user.
Some went so far as to question these individuals’ eligibility to vote. “If your choice of president is based on Taylor Swift’s choice, you shouldn’t be allowed to vote,” said Adam Crigler, a popular YouTuber, on X.
The year 2023 was a triumphant one for Swift, between her very public relationship with football star Travis Kelce, the massive success of her “Eras” tour and follow-up film, and her officially reaching billionaire status.
Karoline Leavitt, former President Donald Trump’s national press secretary, said in an interview on Tuesday that the Biden administration plans to use Swift’s likely endorsement as a “Hail Mary pass” to its 2024 campaign. According to the New York Times and other publications, there’s hope an endorsement from Swift, which he received in 2020, will boost Biden’s poll numbers leading into the election. Whoopi Goldberg pushed back against “Taylor Swift conspiracy theories” on The View on Tuesday.
“Why is she triggering everybody? I mean, they are freaking out!” Whoopi said of conservative media.
