A recent Gallup poll found that nearly 70 percent of Americans are against transgender athletes competing in sports that do not correspond with their biological sex. That is an increase over 2021, when 62 percent of Americans said the same
Twenty-seven states allow transgender athletes to compete with the gender they identify with. Most of the other states have policies that prevent athletes from competing outside of their biological sex, while others are considering enacting such bans. Alaska is the most recent state to do so, with its Board of Education voting to ban transgender athletes from competing on girls’ teams as this school year commenced.
Organizations such as Concerned Women for America and the Independent Women’s Forum have been leading the charge to protect women’s sports. In addition to giving a platform to a variety of NCAA athletes, they have rallied around the importance of Title IX, which protects women from sex discrimination in education and sports.
Most notably, Riley Gaines is an NCAA swimmer who competed against a biological male and has gained significant traction for her activism. Gaines, who shared her testimony before Congress this past summer with the goal of saving women’s sports, exemplifies the reality of allowing men to compete in and dominate women’s sports.
