NextImg:United Airlines CEO Receives Backlash Over Drag Performance

If there is one qualification United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby can safely add to his resume, it’s “woke.”

On Thursday, a 2010 video of Kirby performing drag at a U.S. Airways Halloween party went viral after it was posted by the popular X account Libs of TikTok. In the video, Kirby appears dressed in a drag costume while crawling toward the audience before breaking into a dance routine to Lady Gaga’s song “Bad Romance.”

At the time, Kirby was the president of U.S. Airways, which later merged with American Airlines, and he doesn’t seem to have had many qualms about bringing his drag hobby to work. In another video from 2014, Kirby dressed up as Kesha to dance to Pitbull’s “Timber” and One Direction’s “Best Song Ever” alongside other executives at American Airlines. So, we’ve discovered that top airline executives in the United States think dressing up as women and performing sexualized dance routines is an appropriate office party activity. Unsurprisingly, they seem to have the company policies to go with that behavior.

Just a few days ago, a 2021 HBO interview with Kirby resurfaced. In the video, he boasts: “We have committed that 50 percent of the classes will be women or people of color. Today only 19 percent of our pilots at United Airlines are women or people of color. And by the way, from all the data I’ve seen, that’s the highest of any airline in the country.”

When the interviewer pointed out that, out of 11 executives at United Airlines, three were women and one was a person of color, Kirby went on the defense, saying that the company involves BIPOC employees in the hiring process and aims to hire many young people. What he didn’t explain was how United’s commitment to DEI helps keep Americans safe in the air. (READ MORE: Ramaswamy is Absolutely Schooling Woke, Inc.)

Kirby is just part of the problem. More recently, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced a plan to expand its diversity hires to include candidates who suffer from “severe intellectual” disabilities, including psychiatric illnesses, according to the New York Post. One wonders if those candidates are vetted for the ability to effectively maintain safe and efficient flight practices before they’re given the job.

Although there’s no doubt that the airline industry has been hijacked by woke DEI idealogues more eager to meet diversity quotas than to find candidates who qualify for their positions, it does seem increasingly unlikely that DEI initiatives will remain a popular move for major businesses. John Sailer wrote in the Free Press earlier this week that many government DEI programs are receiving significant pushback.

“Legislators have proposed and passed laws curtailing DEI practices. Businesses have trimmed their DEI positions. Some universities have voluntarily ditched mandatory diversity statements,” he explained. “DEI is still deeply entrenched at our institutions—but retrenchment is well under way.”

Hopefully, the “retrenchment” process includes firing the woke CEO of United.
