Former President Donald Trump’s surrender at Georgia’s Fulton County Jail on Thursday marked the fourth time he was arraigned for criminal charges this year. But it was the first time that a former U.S. president has ever had his mug shot taken and released to the public.
Trump, wearing a blue suit and red tie, looked sternly into the camera as his picture was taken. Released jail records show that he was assigned inmate number P01135809, with his hair color listed as “Blond or Strawberry,” his height as 6 feet, 3 inches, and his weight as 215 pounds.
The former president came in to answer charges related to his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia and was released Thursday night on a $200,000 bond. He is facing 13 charges — among a total of 41 charges brought against him and 18 other defendants — including solicitation of violation of oath by public officers, conspiracy, and racketeering.
Trump did not mince words as he spoke to the media before departing Atlanta. He called Thursday a “sad day for America” and reiterated his claim of election fraud, framing his actions as challenging a rigged election. “I did nothing wrong. What they are doing is election interference,” he added.
Trump’s campaign team wasted no time in launching an array of products emblazoned with the mug shot. T-shirts, mugs, and bumper stickers featuring the photo and the slogan “Never Surrender!” are now on sale alongside the campaign’s original political memorabilia, with proceeds reportedly going toward Trump’s legal defense fund. Some Etsy sellers have also added slogans like “Legend” and “NOT GUILTY” beneath the photo.
“The President should never have been indicted,” Trump’s lawyer Steven Sadow said in a statement. “He is innocent of all the charges brought against him. We look forward to the case being dismissed or, if necessary, an unbiased, open minded jury finding the President not guilty.”
While Trump’s legal team maintains his innocence, the legal drama in Georgia is set to intensify, with Oct. 23 set as a potential trial date for Trump and 18 other defendants, including former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and former Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani.
