“Twenty-three people were prosecuted; they should not have been prosecuted,” President Trump said before signing the order. “Many of them are elderly people — they should not have been prosecuted. This is a great honor to sign this.”
Twenty-one pardon requests were formally submitted by attorneys of the Thomas More Society, a non-profit law firm historically known for its advocacy for life, family, and freedom. In the letter, the attorneys pleaded for “full and unconditional pardons” for each of the pro-life advocates.
The activists were prosecuted by former President Biden’s Department of Justice for violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act. The FACE Act was signed into law in 1994 and, on the surface, was meant to prevent violent conduct from interfering with a person’s right to inquire, obtain, or provide reproductive health services. However, the act is often unfairly weaponized against pro-life activists exercising their First Amendment right to peacefully protest.
“Had they been opposing anything but abortion, Joe Biden would have given them medals — instead Biden wanted them branded as ‘convicted felons’ and imprisoned for years in a federal penitentiary,” Thomas More Society said in a letter to President Trump.
The individuals were sentenced to prison by the Biden administration for singing Christian hymns and praises outside of abortion clinics. “These peaceful pro-life Americans mistreated by Biden include grandparents, pastors, a Holocaust survivor, and a Catholic priest — all are selfless, sincere patriots.”

Calls for Trump to pardon the pro-lifers prosecuted by the Biden administration started before Trump entered office and continued after he pardoned those involved in the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol protest. “Innocent pro-lifers who sang about Jesus Christ in front of an abortion clinic — in a hallway, not in a clinic — it was a peaceful protest,” Kayleigh McEnany, former Trump White House press secretary, said.
At the 2023 Pray Vote Stand Summit, Trump had promised that “never again will the federal government be used to target religious believers.”
“Today, freedom rings in our great nation. The heroic, peaceful pro-lifers unjustly imprisoned by Biden’s Justice Department will now be freed and able to return home to their families, eat a family meal, and enjoy the freedom that should have never been taken from them in the first place,” Steve Crampton, Thomas More Society senior counsel, stated.
The pardons come at an opportune time on the eve of the 52nd National March for Life demonstration scheduled to take place on Jan. 24, 2025. The president is expected to have a video message for the event, whereas Vice President JD Vance will deliver remarks in person.
