Intense conflict is not new to Israel; the state’s first significant conflict commenced less than 24 hours after its modern founding. At midnight on May 15, 1948, Israel was attacked from all sides. Despite being heavily outnumbered by Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia, Israel prevailed against all odds. 

Oct. 7 marks the one-year anniversary since Hamas brutally attacked Israel on what has been called the darkest day in the country’s history.
