This week, Luther and Aubrey have thoughts about Harvard embarrassing itself in the wake of its president, Claudine Gay, being exposed more daily as a serial plagiarizer. The two also consider the Pope’s guidance on blessings and how those relate to homosexual couples. Aubrey thinks most commentators go too far one way or the other, while Luther listens in bemused Protestant silence. (READ MORE: Vatican Offers Blessings to Same-Sex Couples. It’s Not What You Think.)

Moving on in festive fettle, the two share their shopping experiences as they prepare to celebrate Christ’s birth. Aubrey recommends that readers give Paul Kengor’s review of It’s a Wonderful Life while Luther prattles on about imagery, canon, and the Great Books. Luther recommends Melissa Mackenzie’s “When White People Start Believing Critical Race Theory,” which addresses the dangers of inculcating grievance. The two conclude by discussing How the Grinch Stole Christmas and The Berenstain Bear’s Christmas Tree — pieces of universally beloved art and writing that speak to the greater things.

Luther and Aubrey wish you and your family the merriest of Christmases. May God bless you.
