Just when I thought the lefties reached rock bottom, they resurface with creative catastrophes that I couldn’t have dreamed up in my most degenerate dreams.
I’ve gotten used to dodging bullets fired from those I used to consider friendly acquaintances, if not friends, over the past few years, but recently, the posts and comments I’m reading on social media have left even me speechless. “She has gone full Heritage Foundation and doesn’t care,” someone I don’t really know commented on an article I wrote concerning women in politics. Considering Heritage is my employer, I can affirm this is a factual statement. However, the rest left my jaw agape. “But she will care when they take away her laptop and cut off her finger for reading and writing. Women who sell out women are vile.” Pardon me for a moment while I alert our HR department that half of our company is in jeopardy of losing limbs!
Another former colleague posted an article on Facebook from some random internet site I’ve never heard of called “Raw Story,” which, I am sure, is known for its non-partisan, award-winning journalism. The title of the piece? “Evangelical church urges Trump admin to ‘execute’ LGBTQ Americans.” I chuckled to myself. No one of sound mind would take this headline seriously. But my Facebook friend’s comment on the piece was even more hysterical. “Like all the sane people in America told you. First they come for one group. Then it keeps getting bigger. As a person who had family and friends escape the holocaust. We are telling you. This is just the beginning. To those who voted for this, a big FU.” Remind me, please, how they are the sane ones.
I know any efforts to appeal to their rational mind will be futile. If they ever had one, Trump has killed it.
It takes a decent amount of self-control not to fire back at posts that are this stupid. Sometimes, I become particularly snarky and fire off a response like “OMG. I was just down on the White House front lawn and you should see the camps they are building for all the gays!” Other times, I have the urge to explain that two of Trump’s top cabinet officials are gay and that he is more liberal than conservative, particularly when it comes to social policy. However, I know any efforts to appeal to their rational mind will be futile. If they ever had one, Trump has killed it.
Increasingly, I simply feel grateful that God pulled me out of the cesspool of progressive ideology that deludes the mind and corrupts the heart.
Comments from Sade Perkins, a non-resident fellow at Princeton University, may have been some of the most depraved I’ve seen yet. She managed to turn the tragedy in Texas into a racial trope. In a video responding to the unfathomable loss of lives after floods devastated Camp Mystic, an all-girls Christian summer camp, Perkins stated, “If this were a group of Hispanic girls out there, this would not be getting the type of coverage that they’re getting. No one would give a **ck. The parents of these little girls would be saying things like they need to be deported, they shouldn’t have been here in the first place.” She finished off her rant by claiming concentration camps and prisons are being set up for illegal immigrants and that we need to “keep that in mind before ya’ll get out there and put on your rainboots and go find these little girls.” She also called Mayor John Whitmire of Houston, the city that formerly employed her, a “piece of s**t.”
It’s hard to fathom what it’s like to live in a mind that operates like this. I see so many of my liberal former friends mired in depression and hatred, unable to function in the real world or, seemingly, find any joy. Even one of the most fun and celebratory holidays — the Fourth of July — has become yet another opportunity for grievances for liberals.
Yet, for many years, it’s how I lived, so it’s not completely unfathomable.
And while I’d like to report that this is just typical liberal women behavior — the kind that I’ve often commented on in the past — this is not true. Many men are equally emotional and irrational these days. Maybe blame the lack of testosterone. I used to find comfort in the fact that traditional men could bring a steady, cool, levelheaded approach to scenarios where sensitivities run high. This quality has always been attractive to me, particularly in my much more emotionally wrought years. Sadly, this kind of man seems to be harder and harder to find.
I am not sure what will become of a party that, despite its declarations of compassion and caring, time and time again allows unfettered hunger for hatred to delude rational thinking. The partisan politician in me should be pleased, as the bar is set pretty low for the right side of the aisle to jump over. Still, the human being in me can’t help but feel despondent that people have sunk so low.
