NextImg:The Lamest Opposition in American History

You might have seen the headline already. It comes from an X post by the Vice President, who was reacting to a photo op/attention-seeking stunt from the Democratic National Committee, which has somehow settled on a new line of messaging that precisely nobody thinks was a good idea.

Vance is not wrong — not in the general sense and certainly not in his estimation of the “Taco Trump” campaign the Democrats have vomited on their lapels.

How did this come about? This…

The concept of accusing Trump of “chickening out” because he sets tariffs at a level not meant to sustain itself but rather to spark negotiations and then lowers them as those negotiations ensue is a bit bizarre on the merits. (RELATED: Trump Exposes Fractures in the Global Order)

Does the opposition actually want to see 145 percent tariffs on Chinese goods? If so, say so. Of course, they’d have to answer why they didn’t set such rates when they were in charge last year.

If they don’t want tariffs on China at all, then what’s the point of accusing Trump of “chickening out” when he’s lowering them as part of a negotiation? How is this narrative going to sustain itself as events flow?

Vance’s appraisal of this narrative hits the spot — it’s lame. As in, it can’t go anywhere on its own.

And here’s what it looks like when Chuck Schumer, who has now become the lamest politician in America, gets involved…

I could do a whole column about how Chuck the Schmuck really oughtn’t be accusing anybody of “chickening out” after the way he got himself steamrolled on the budget CR earlier this year, or how he can’t really complain about transparency after hiding the fact that Joe Biden was non compos mentis from the American public until he couldn’t get away with it anymore, but I know you don’t have all day so we’ll just stipulate to those things and move on.

Or when this pathetic lame gets involved…

Or this flatulent cretin…

Jesse Watters wasn’t impressed with either of the two Californians…

Sure, there are memes. With AI, you can generate all kinds of funny images. Trump’s face is on a taco, and there are now range chickens on the internet who look like him.

But so what?

While the Democrats are pleasuring themselves with lame memes that don’t actually describe anything true here, this unfortunate thing happened to them…

Hmmm. What’s going on there?

Plus, there’s this…

It seems like they’ve even lost Bill Maher, who is hardly moving to the right but who can’t hide his contempt for his own party anymore…

How did it get so bad? How is the world’s oldest continuous political party becoming so out of touch that they can’t even conceive of a political narrative without stepping on rakes like Sideshow Bob on the front lawn?

This is a rather unkind explanation, but it’s accurate…

Part of the reason conservatives seem to do better with memes and narratives, and why those flow so freely on social media, is that the Right simply doesn’t take politics as seriously as the Left does. (RELATED: Trump’s Poll Numbers Rise, Resistance 2.0 Flops)

Sane people shouldn’t and can’t. How do you take people like Chuck Schumer, Gavin Newsom, and Eric Swalwell seriously?

Sane people also — and this is something I notice that the Left thinks is utterly stupid — tend to recognize the presence of a higher power and are willing to worship that higher power. The Left, and particularly the activist Left, which is almost universally atheist at this point, fills the void of their disbelief with politics. (RELATED: Who’s Afraid of Christian Nationalism?)

And it’s impossible to joke about politics when it’s the sum total of your whole life. The only jokes you can handle are the ones about the opposition, and when they come from that place, they aren’t jokes. They’re insults.

And not very playful ones.

So, making the Taco Trump memes and sending out the little narrative tweets falls a bit flat. It’s lame. And the reason it’s lame is because it’s so white-hot partisan.

They tried to trash Vance again and again, you’ll remember. They spread a lie that he had once used a couch as a sex doll. Tim Walz, one of the strangest people ever to grace a national political ticket, tried to brand Vance as “weird.” But when they took the step of using AI filters to give him a baby face, he started sharing them because he was perfectly happy to make fun of himself, and in doing so, he won.

He won because Chuck Schumer can’t do self-deprecation. Schumer is far too insecure for that. Ditto for Swalwell, Jasmine Crockett, AOC, Bernie Sanders, and all the other self-important clowns who lead the party — people whose political narcissism prevents them from possessing real humanity.

It all comes from a false place. Everything about the Left today is a lie. And lies, unlike the truth, aren’t funny. They aren’t relatable. And, once they’re exposed, they make for very bad narratives. (RELATED: The Democratic Party Is Collapsing)

The Taco Trump thing is almost a week old. I’d be surprised if it manages to sputter on for another week. It’s just too lame to survive.

The real question is whether the political movement attempting to pump life into it has any better prognosis.
