The United States has revoked the visas of the English punk rap duo Bob Vylan following incendiary chants led by the group.

The U.S. deputy secretary of state, Christopher Landau, stated in a Monday X post, “The @StateDept has revoked the US visas for the members of the Bob Vylan band in light of their hateful tirade at Glastonbury, including leading the crowd in death chants.”

“Foreigners who glorify violence and hatred are not welcome visitors to our country,” he added.

Warren Stephens, the U.S. ambassador to the U.K., criticized the chants as “antisemitic,” adding that, “There should be no place for this hateful incitement or tolerance of antisemitism in the U.K.”

The chants occurred at the Glastonbury music festival in England on Saturday. The two performers, who both go by the name Bob Vylan to maintain privacy, began the chant “death, death to the IDF” in front of festival goers, several of whom were waving Palestinian flags. One of the duo members also stated his aversion to working for a “f***ing Zionist.”

Bob Vylan has doubled down on their prompting of the chant following the backlash they received. In an Instagram post, the duo stated, “We are being targeted for speaking up. We are not the first. We will not be the last.”

They also denied antisemitism as a motive behind the vitriolic chant, stating, “We are not for the death of Jews, Arabs, or any other race or group of people.”

The U.K. has begun a criminal investigation into the group, examining the chants targeting the Israel Defense Forces to determine if they cross the line into criminal incitement of violence or hatred.

The duo’s upcoming U.S. tour will likely be cancelled due to the visa revocation. The United Talent Agency has also dropped the punk rock duo as a client.

The BBC, which aired the festival, has stated that the company “should have pulled” the livestream due to the group’s comments and that “We regret this did not happen.”

The Instagram account associated with the Glastonbury music festival also condemned the chants, stating, “We are appalled by the statements made from the West Holts stage by Bob Vylan yesterday.

The organizers also stated, “There is no place at Glastonbury for antisemitism, hate speech or incitement to violence.”
