April showers bring May flowers … and then it’s Pride Month.
Just like many conservatives, I dread this time of year. I’m not a fan of seeing a symbol of God’s promise not to flood the world be desecrated as a symbol of LGBTQ Pride and unity all over cities, towns, and, unfortunately, churches.
However, in light of a significant cultural shift favoring conservative policies and traditional values, will Pride Month be flaunted as heavily as it once was?
Although President Trump made a statement recognizing the month during his first administration in 2019, his second administration’s commitment to removing transgender ideology from the private and public sectors points to a different tone. Government agencies are starting to follow suit by prohibiting the promotion of the month. Fox News reported that FBI agents and directors received an email from their leadership, stating, “There should be no official FBI actions, events, or messaging regarding Pride Month.”
The email, sent by FBI Assistant Director for Public Affairs Ben Williamson, noted that agents can do what they want on their own time, but are expected to take “no official actions or issue any specific messaging.”
The Guardian wrote an extensive report about how LGBTQ Pride in the United States is in a state of “trouble,” noting how a growing number of states are introducing bills banning LGBTQ flags from being flown on government or school property. (READ MORE: The LGBTQ Conquest of America)
There are over 500 “anti-LGBTQ” bills currently circulating in the United States, according to the ACLU’s legislative tracker. Out of the 500, 23 bills related to free speech and expression (i.e., banning Pride flags from being flown outside government buildings and banning minors from attending drag shows) are currently advancing through state legislatures.
Pride parades are experiencing a decline in corporate sponsorships, primarily due to the uncertainty surrounding the future impact of Trump’s tariffs and the potential retribution for not following Trump’s executive orders to shut down DEI initiatives. Heritage of Pride, an organization that produces many Pride events in New York City, is experiencing a loss of over $750,000 due to the loss of big-name sponsors like Mastercard or Nissan.
While it’s unlikely Pride Month will be federally recognized, Pride parades and events will still be held across the country throughout June. Over 40 Pride events are documented to occur in June in various states, including Texas, New York, California, Massachusetts, and Alaska.
