In his magisterial biography of Winston Churchill, the late Martin Gilbert described the visit Churchill paid Gaza in 1921. Gaza at that time had a population of about 15,000 Arabs as well a little less than 100 Jews, the tiny remnant of a once-thriving community. 

Churchill was in high office, the colonial secretary of Lloyd George’s post–World War I government. He was visiting the Holy Land that had been given to Britain by the San Remo treaty after the Ottoman Empire dissolved upon its defeat in World War I. Gilbert quoted notes recorded contemporaneously by a member of Churchill’s party, Cap. Maxwell Coote:

There was a tremendous reception by a howling mob all shouting in Arabic ‘Cheers for the Minister’ and also for Great Britain, but their chief cry over which they waxed quite frenzied was ‘Down with the Jews’, ‘Cut their throats’. 

Mr. Churchill and Sir Herbert were delighted with the enthusiasm of their reception, being not in the least aware of what was being shouted. Lawrence [T.E. Lawrence, the famous Lawrence of Arabia], of course, understood it all and told me, but we kept very quiet. He was obviously gravely anxious about the whole situation. We toured the town, surrounded by this almost fanatical mob which was becoming more and more worked up by its shouting. No one appeared to have bargained for this, but all went off without incident.

Later, a group of Arabs presented a petition to Churchill. They demanded a ban on Jewish immigration, removal of the right to vote in future elections from most of the Jews already in the Holy Land, and repudiation of the pledge the British government had made during the Great War to foster there a home for Jews, so that only they would have rights in the territory that includes all the land of modern Israel and Jordan.

To justify their extreme position, they relied on an imported version of European anti-Semitism, the kind that had been sponsored by the Tsarist government in its last 50 years as it organized violent repression of its Jewish communities, was taking root in defeated Germany, and would soon lead to the extermination of a full third of the world’s Jews. This is from the petition:

The Jew, moreover, is clannish and un-neighbourly, and cannot mix with those who live about him. He will enjoy the privileges and benefits of a country, but will give nothing in return. The Jew is a Jew all the world over. He amasses the wealth of a country and then leads its people, whom he has already impoverished, where he chooses. He encourages wars when self-interest dictates, and thus uses the armies of the nations to do his bidding….

Zionists are ambitious. If to-day they accept the mandate of England they may not do so to-morrow. Their one aim is to establish a Jewish kingdom, bring back the glory of Israel in the ‘Land of Promise’ and gradually control the world.

Nothing much has changed over the years. Same old hateful slanders, using the bogeyman of the great satanic Jewish conspiracy to take over the world as an excuse and license for the same old lust for blood and rape that has surfaced again and again over the centuries. As if released from a deep freeze, the howling mobs emerged on Oct. 7, seeking blood and rape. The only difference is they were better organized, backed as they are by the immense wealth that the Obama/Biden policy has let flow to Iran and from them to their clients, subterranean Jew-hating, necrophiliac sadists of the Hamas empire.

Hamas is steeped in the same paranoic, hateful vision of the Jew that flowed through the document presented to Churchill more than 100 years ago. From Hamas’ own mission document:

For a long time, the enemies have been planning, skillfully and with precision, for the achievement of what they have attained…. They strived to amass great and substantive material wealth…. With their money, they took control of the world media, news agencies, the press, publishing houses, broadcasting stations, and others. With their money they stirred revolutions in various parts of the world with the purpose of achieving their interests and reaping the fruit therein. They were behind the French Revolution, the Communist revolution and most of the revolutions we heard and hear about, here and there. With their money they formed secret societies, such as Freemasons, Rotary Clubs, the Lions and others in different parts of the world for the purpose of sabotaging societies and achieving Zionist interests. With their money they were able to control imperialistic countries and instigate them to colonize many countries in order to enable them to exploit their resources and spread corruption there. 

You may speak as much as you want about regional and world wars. They were behind World War I, when they were able to destroy the Islamic Caliphate, making financial gains and controlling resources. They obtained the Balfour Declaration, formed the League of Nations through which they could rule the world. They were behind World War II, through which they made huge financial gains by trading in armaments, and paved the way for the establishment of their state. It was they who instigated the replacement of the League of Nations with the United Nations and the Security Council to enable them to rule the world through them. There is no war going on anywhere, without having their finger in it. 

With this, they showed their indebtedness to Hitler. Compare it to a Hitler speech when he was still confident that he was defeating the Allies:

If Jewry is starting an international world war to eliminate the Aryan nations of Europe, then it won’t be the Aryan nation which will be wiped out but Jewry. 

They have drawn nation after nation into this war. The men who pull the strings of this demented man in the White House have managed actually to draw one nation after the other into this war. 

The Nazi paranoia justified in their minds their unleashing a nightmare of enslavement, starvation, sadism, and extermination upon Jewish men, women, and children in every land that they controlled.

The kind of paranoia evidenced in the document handed Churchill in 1921 was of the same species. The screams for Jewish blood morphed within the year to well-organized murderous riots against Jews throughout the Holy Land, and then into an unending war against any Jewish presence whatsoever that would not be a tiny minority of terrified semi-slaves. By 1929, it had morphed into the destruction of Jewish community of Hebron, where the patriarchs and matriarchs of the people of Israel are buried. It was the worst of an organized campaign of murder, mutilation, plunder, and serial rape.

Here is a description of the event by pioneering investigative journalist Albert Londres: 

Some fifty Jews, men, and women had taken refuge outside the ghetto in the Anglo-Palestine Bank, which was managed by one of their own, the son of Rabbi Slonim. They were huddled in one room. The Arabs, the soldiers of the grand mufti, soon sniffed them out…Here’s the story in a nutshell: They cut off hands, they cut off fingers, they held heads over a stove, they gouged out eyes. A rabbi stood immobile, commending the souls of his Jews to God – they scalped him. They made off with his brains.

On Mrs. Sokolov’s lap, one after the other, they sat six students from the yeshiva and, with her still alive, slit their throats. They mutilated the men. They shoved thirteen-year-old girls, mothers, and grandmothers into the blood and raped them in unison.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. The same startling orgiastic violence led this last outbreak of a population frozen in nihilistic, anti-civilizational violence, cloaking itself in religious rhetoric and giving license to the actions so shocking they’d make Satan cry.

The most disheartening thing is that this nation, that sacrificed lives and treasure to end the Nazi hell on earth, is infested with people taught to hold history in contempt and to indulge instead in their own narcissistic fancies. Look at the screaming faces in their riotous rallies, listen to their embrace of “all means necessary,” and realize that no civilization survives unrestrained indulgence in narcissism and nihilism. 

Our own country’s future depends on the choice we make to regain our culture and listen to our better angels. Germany was the home of Bach, of Goethe, of cutting-edge technology; Russia was the home of Tolstoy and Dostoevsky, Chagall, Tchaikovsky, and Chekhov; medieval Arab Baghdad was the leading center of astronomy, philosophy, and philology of its time. All succumbed to human-made horrors. No culture is immune.

We must choose good over evil again and again. That is what is at issue in the tunnels of Gaza. Do we submit to an endless gratification of uncompromising selfish indulgence? Or do we rise to the human greatness that is ours if we only choose to uphold the understanding Genesis has given us of humans being created in the image of God?
