When a left-wing assassin murdered Charlie Kirk, conservatives did something completely foreign to the left — they mourned peacefully.
Kirk, the co-founder of Turning Point USA, died September 10 at Utah Valley University. The assassin was a radical leftist who left spent casings on the ground with far-left slogans.
So while the left spirals into violence, conservatives are returning to church and holding prayer vigils.
Kirk’s wife, Erika, appeared on Fox News just days later — and rather than calling for violence, she called for Americans to start TPUSA chapters, have families, and go to church. The widow’s solid resolve ignited a spark across the conservative movement.
Across the country, conservatives answered the call. They requested to start more than 62,000 new TPUSA chapters, organized prayer vigils and memorials, and filled churches across the country.
Conspicuously absent: violence, riots, and looting.
Contrast this with George Floyd’s 2020 death in police custody. Before all the facts came in, mobs stormed police stations, cities burned, and violence erupted across the country. All this for a man with an extensive criminal history. Meanwhile, prominent conservatives, including Ben Shapiro, condemned Floyd’s death.
Celebrating Violence
For the left, politics is power — and violence is fair game. Kirk’s assassination only drove the point home. During his campus visits, leftists often greeted him with disdain instead of debate. (RELATED: The Trigger on Charlie Kirk’s Slow-Motion Assassination Was Pulled Before His Birth)
“I just have one question for you,” someone at San Francisco State University said to Kirk. “Why does your face look like that? You’re ugly as sh*t.”
“Was your mom married?” Another person said to Kirk. “Because I got a call from the doctor, she missed her f*cking abortion.” (RELATED: We Are Charlie Kirk, And We Will Not Be Silenced.)
Now, it is clear they are willing to turn their hateful words into action.
The assassin, Tyler Robinson, reportedly became obsessed with leftist ideology and even expressed to his family members his hatred of Kirk. (RELATED: Charlie Kirk’s Assassination Exposes a Generation in Crisis)
He could have debated Kirk on their differing opinions. He could have tried to show Kirk his perspective. He could have been respectful, so even if Kirk disagreed, he would find respect in return — which Kirk graciously afforded those he interacted with.
Instead, he shot him in the neck. Why? Because he had become radicalized online, as the New York Post points out. He was reportedly living with a transgender romantic partner of the same sex. He inscribed on one shell casing, “Hey fascist! Catch!” (RELATED: The Martyrdom of My Friend Charlie Kirk)
Legacy media outlets have constantly compared Kirk and other mainstream conservatives to Adolf Hitler, justifying leftists to commit heinous acts of violence. If conservatives are Nazis, and Americans killed Nazis historically, the next step makes itself clear. (RELATED: Charlie Kirk Is a Casualty of the Cultural Counterrevolution)
After Kirk’s assassination, a student at Texas Tech University was caught on video celebrating — saying, “F*ck y’all homie dead … he got shot in the head.”
Kiara Harvey, a nurse from Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, posted online, referencing the assassination, “F*ck his kids. F*ck his ancestors, especially the b*tch who birthed him.”
“Well, guess he lost the debate,” posted an X account called BlackRedGuard the day Kirk was assassinated. The post currently has nearly 300,000 likes. (RELATED: Charlie Kirk: The Last Debater)
Rather than engaging Kirk in the marketplace of ideas — which he was literally hosting — one of them decided to assassinate him.
Just a few years before, in 2020, leftists pursued violence over the death of George Floyd.
Floyd was arrested several times previously for drug-related offenses and theft. He was involved in an aggravated robbery in Houston, where a group of men entered a woman’s home, and Floyd was accused of threatening her with a firearm while others searched the house. The left’s violent riots lasted for months in 2020. More than 1,000 buildings were burned or damaged in Minneapolis in the days after Floyd’s death. Property damage in Minneapolis alone totaled more than $107 million, not counting business inventory losses. (RELATED: The Cult of George Floyd)
But now, when one of their comrades assassinated Kirk — a figurehead of the conservative movement, and an upstanding father and husband — they cheered on the bloodshed.
It speaks volumes about leftism that its followers painted a man like Kirk — who offered ideas and solutions — as a villain, while they painted a man like Floyd — with a long criminal record — as a national hero. (RELATED: The Two Americas)
Meanwhile, conservatives refused to riot or commit violence. After all, Kirk was a loving father and husband, and a gentle spirit who showed kindness to those with whom he disagreed.
So while the left spirals into violence, conservatives are returning to church and holding prayer vigils — bringing with them the average American.
