NextImg:CNN Attack on Trump Reveals Absurd Double Standard in the Media

On Wednesday, U.S. officials confirmed that five illegal immigrants had been deported to the small African nation of Eswatini, formerly Swaziland. A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson described the deportees as “depraved monsters,” adding that the five men were being held in solitary confinement in Eswatini.

Thabile Mdluli, the government spokesperson for the small nation, stated that the deportation and imprisonment of the men was a result of “months of robust high-level engagements” between officials in the U.S. and Eswatini.

Mdluli also said that Eswatini would work to repatriate the five men to their countries of origin, with the help of a UN agency. The men are originally from Vietnam, Jamaica, Cuba, Yemen, and Laos.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, their crimes in the U.S. include murder and child rape, and DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin has alleged that the crimes are so barbaric that “their home countries refused to take them back.”

Eswatini, which is roughly the size of New Jersey and is ruled by an absolute monarch, reportedly faces no danger from the arrival of these immigrants. To most, the deportation of five criminals to a nation few previously knew of does not constitute any sort of grave violation by the Trump administration.

The reaction by the U.S. mainstream media, however, tells a different story while revealing a hilarious double standard.

On Friday, CNN released an article titled “‘Not Trump’s dumping ground’: Outrage over arrival of foreign US deportees in tiny African nation.” The article goes on to state that “Critics of the move say it is unacceptable for Eswatini to be treated as a ‘dumping ground’ for people considered unfit to live in the US.”

It is an interesting reflection on American media that CNN believes these men were deported for being “unfit” to live here, as opposed to the crimes of murder and rape.

This weeping and gnashing of teeth on behalf of Eswatini’s jailing of five U.S. deportees is a clear illustration of the problem with the mainstream media. It is the height of irony that five murderers and child rapists being deported represents “Trump’s dumping ground,” and yet CNN cannot spare any criticism for the massive influx of immigrants in the U.S. every year.

The selective outrage of CNN ignores the fact that America has been the “dumping ground” for the entire world for decades. Instead of criticizing countries that send millions to our borders every year, the outlet chooses such a condemning response on behalf of five men in an Eswatini prison.

As noted, Eswatini faces no threat or danger in regard to the incarceration of these men. One place that would face continued danger from the presence of these individuals, however, is America. That is why they were deported in the first place.

CNN’s posturing on behalf of the small African nation shows their deepest motivation is to score a win against Donald Trump, and that they are devoid of any inclination to address the immigration problem domestically.

It is a damning reflection of mainstream news outlets that more concern is shown for the tiny African country than for Americans who are victimized by illegal immigration constantly. The deep-set disregard for actual crises sends a blaring message about the priorities of CNN and other outlets, and further shows the absurd hypocrisy in their positions.
