Perhaps the gods of political incorrectness are exacting revenge upon Major League Baseball’s screwy wokesters.

I recently wrote about the implosion of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Despite posting another 100-win season, the Dodgers pathetically failed to make it through the divisional round of the playoffs. They were trounced, outright swept by the second-place team in their division, the Arizona Diamondbacks, who won 16 fewer games than the Dodgers. The Dodgers registered a mark for futility.
Of course, back in June the Dodgers had registered another mark for futility — actually, for obscenity. The team gave a “Community Hero Award” to a lewd anti-Catholic hate group, the so-called “Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.” Despite outcry from pretty much the whole world, the Dodgers insisted on recognizing the hairy-legged, bearded weirdos during the team’s “Pride Night.” (RELATED: My Religion Is Not Your Costume)
That was June, with the team at its peak of winning streaks. Then came October, when the Dodgers struck out big time against the D-backs.
For the Dodgers, pride came before the fall.
Readers might recall a June 2023 piece I did on MLB and Pride Month. There, naturally, I took my shots at the dubious Dodgers. The especially astute reader might recall that in that piece I noted that the only MLB franchise not flying the rainbow banner was the Texas Rangers. In not swallowing the woke gobbledygook, the Rangers were condemned as gay baseball’s lone holdout. (READ THE PIECE: MLB’s Cultural Revolutionaries)
Well, dear readers, I share exciting news: It was none other than the Texas Rangers who won the World Series this week. Yes, the one team that didn’t embrace the deadly sin of pride.
Perhaps there is justice in the sports world after all.
Particularly remarkable, this was the first World Series ever won by the Rangers in franchise history. Only two years ago the team had lost over 100 games. Last year, they lost 94. This year, they went 90–72, tying for first in their division. The turnaround was astonishing.
Better yet, guess who was the Rangers’ series MVP? It was the excellent shortstop Corey Seager, a former Dodger. Seager had once offered his heroics to the Dodgers when they won the World Series in 2020, before the Dodgers embraced the ugly “Sisters” as Pride Month poster boys.
I repeat: Perhaps there is justice in the sports world after all.
And yet, if I may add another intriguing anti-woke element to all of this:
As many readers here know, MLB’s commissioner is, quite sadly and very inappropriately, a partisan political hack for the Democrats. His name is Rob Manfred. Back in 2021, Manfred egregiously politicized America’s beloved national pastime by punishing Atlanta — pulling the MLB All-Star game from that city — in protest of the state of Georgia’s crucial new election-integrity laws. Manfred thereby did the bidding of the Democratic Party, buying into the outrageous political propaganda of an incoherent Joe Biden and Stacey Abrams. It was shameless. Our veteran correspondent for The American Spectator, the great George Jean Nathan, excoriated Manfred for this horrible politicization of Major League Baseball. The legendary Nathan led an epic national boycott against this man whom Nathan famously labeled “Man-fraud.” (READ THE PIECE: MLB’s Rogue Commissioner Must Resign)
In response, your devoted columnist joined the venerable Nathan and his boycott. I quit watching Major League Baseball and have not watched a single game on television since. Countless disgusted fans joined me. And judging from the TV ratings of this year’s World Series — literally the lowest in history — many longtime fans still have not returned. We’re all woked out. Manfred did irreparable damage to the sport that he is tasked to promote. Nice job, commish!
But that said, here’s the rainbow (pardon the pun) in that story: Guess who won the World Series in 2021, the year of Manfred’s ideological attack on the city of Alanta? Yep, the Atlanta Braves.
I repeat: Perhaps there is justice in the sports world after all.
And there to present the trophy to the Braves in November 2021, with an idiotic look on his face, was Manfred. Lucky for Manfred, the Braves won the game on the road, in Houston, sparing him 40,000 fans chasing him out of the ballpark with torches and pitchforks. Still, a strong contingent of booing Braves fans were in Houston that night to let him have it. A clueless Manfred shot them a look as if he had no idea what they were upset about.
The gods of political incorrectness may well be smiling upon baseball. A summary for your pleasure: The Atlanta Braves triumphed over Manfred in 2021. The Texas Rangers triumphed over the Pride Warriors in 2023. The Dodgers of Perpetual Indulgence imploded.
Hmm. Given this anti-woke tide, maybe the Cleveland Guardians should reclaim their old name, the Cleveland Indians. In fact, maybe they should double down with something even more politically incorrect, perhaps renaming their team the Cleveland Injuns.
Sounds to me like a recipe for a 2024 World Series victory.
