NextImg:Will RFK Jr. Be the Spoiler for the 2024 Election?

Now that President Biden has officially announced that he plans on running for a second term, the pressure is being turned up on former Democrat-turned-independent hopeful Robert F. Kennedy Jr. who increasingly being seen as a potential spoiler.

In a presidential race where the margin of victory could be slim, like in the 2020 election, even former president Donald Trump doesn’t seem to be taking chances with Kennedy’s influence.

Trump has blasted Kennedy as a “wasted protest vote” and even stated that he would “even take Biden over Junior.” In a post on Truth Social on Saturday, Trump stepped up his attacks saying that Kennedy was, “far more LIBERAL than anyone running as a Democrat, including [Cornell] West and [Jill] Stein” who are also running as third party candidates.

With recent polls showing that Kennedy has potential to take votes from both Biden and Trump, both camps appear concerned about who stands to lose the most voters to to an independent.

Rather than running from the “spoiler” label, Kennedy is leaning into it by announcing what he calls a “No Spoiler Pledge.”

Kennedy says, “If either President Trump or President Biden won, the division is gonna continue, the anger, the vitriol, the chaos, the polarization is gonna worsen.

The only way to end that is through my successful candidacy.”

There may be a growing number of voters who’d love to have an option besides Biden or Trump in November.

But Kennedy’s anti-establishment leanings may not be enough to overcome his long term support of intrusive environmental policies, gun control and vaccine questioning stances.
