The vice president’s office on Tuesday released a cringey video from Kamala Harris’ visit with the cast and crew of the show “Queer Eye” as a special “Pride Month” celebration of the show’s 20th anniversary.
The video features cast member Jonathan Van Ness (who reportedly uses they, he and she pronouns) sporting a beard and wearing a long, tight, tie-died dress, knocking on the door of her office at the White House Executive Office Building, and squealing like a girl when Harris opens the door.
“The cast of @QueerEye joined me at the White House to discuss the hard-fought progress the LGBTQI+ community has made in the past 20 years,” Harris proudly posted on X. “Thank you for a meaningful conversation, for giving my office your stamp of approval, and for being fabulous,” she added.
During the event with the Queer Eye crew, which happened last week, Harris giggled and dished with the co-founders and producers of the show, David Collins and Michael Williams; as well as cast members Carson Kressley, Jai Rodriguez, Karamo Brown, and Van Ness.
At one point, Van Ness stood behind a White House podium and pretended to take questions from the press.
“Is it true that’s all your natural hair?” somebody asked.
“Yes, I can confirm that this is not a wig,” Van Ness answered, shaking his hair. When asked who is favorite member of the cast was, he said he could “confirm” that Karamo Brown is his favorite cast member.
In a Rolling Stone exposé in March, sources close to the show said that Van Ness was emotionally “abusive” and had “rage issues.”
Sources used words like “monster,” “nightmare” and “demeaning” to describe Van Ness — whose on-screen persona is bubbly, cheerful and accepting of everyone, frequently encouraging people to reach their full potential by saying, “Yas queen!”
“When he comes on set, everything changes if he’s in a bad mood,” one source said. “Working with him is very difficult in any capacity.”
Regardless, Harris appeared thrilled to meet the gents.
“It’s such an incredible groundbreaking thing that history now 20 years later, now everybody understands what you guys did,’ she gushed.
The caption of the video posted by the V.P. office included a glaring error, the New York Post noticed.
” … Harris got an inadvertent promotion this week when she was dubbed “Madam President” by a caption on a video of her meeting with the cast of Netflix show “Queer Eye,” the Post reported.
The error happens at the end of the clip when one of the male cast members gushed “honey!” girlishly, and then corrected himself to address her as “Madam Vice President.”
The caption read “Madam President” instead.
The Post noted that Joe Biden has referred to Harris as “president” at least eight times during his term of office, most recently making the gaffe last month during a joint news conference with Kenyan President William Ruto.
