NextImg:The Situation Surrounding Ian Roberts Shows Exactly Why Ice Is Needed to Keep America Safe

Over the past few months, President Donald Trump has been working alongside border czar Tom Homan and thousands of ICE agents in an effort to clear the country of dangerous illegal immigrants within the United States. Immigrants, mind you, that previous president, Joe Biden, allowed to enter this country without documentation or, worse yet, a background check.

And as ICE agents across the country face dire criticism not only from online users but also even several Democratic officials, it remains clear that they’ve got a job to do—and a new reason has emerged as to why they’re needed more than ever before.

I can hear the opinion building already. “But ICE is bad!” some of you might be saying. Well, I just found someone that might be worse—Dr. Ian Roberts.

Roberts served as the superintendent of Iowa’s largest school district. But following a “targeted enforcement operation” that brought up some interesting anomalies, ICE agents went to question him.

But upon doing so, Roberts chose to speed away in his vehicle and later abandoned it in a wooded area.

Keep in mind, folks, this is a superintendent of public schools. He knew he was in trouble and decided to flee.

But he didn’t get far. Later on in the afternoon, Roberts was taken into custody by ICE agents, following a large-scale search within a mobile home park. And what’s more, they found Roberts was carrying $3,000 cash, a hunting knife, and a loaded handgun.

Again, a superintendent. Of public schools. Where children are located. And he was carrying weapons.

Think that isn’t a concerning matter? Think again.

“This suspect was arrested in possession of a loaded weapon in a vehicle provided by Des Moines Public Schools after fleeing federal law enforcement,” ICE ERO St. Paul Field Office Director Sam Olson said in a statement.

“This should be a wake-up call for our communities to the great work that our officers are doing every day to remove public safety threats. How this illegal alien was hired without work authorization, a final order of removal, and a prior weapons charge is beyond comprehension and should alarm the parents of that school district.”

It’s just scary to think about. It really is. This was a man who had positioned himself into a higher job within a school district. Without documentation. And then, upon any sort of reasonable questioning by agents (they just went to talk to him, despite what some “theorists” will try to tell you), he not only ran from them but did so with weapons. In a vehicle, mind you, provided by the school district.

Following a “comprehensive background check,” conducted a couple of years ago, the district noted that they were aware of a firearm charge in relation to the hunting rifle he had in his possession. And yet, they let him off the hook because of “sufficient context and explanation.”

And even with a “final order of removal” issued in May 2024, he still somehow continued to keep his job.

I fail to see where the “sufficient context” would allow such a dangerous man to maintain a position of power over kids.

But this, folks, is exactly why ICE is needed. Scream into the online canyon all you want about the dangers they pose, but people like Roberts could potentially cause a greater threat. Imagine if this man had his weapons in his car with him while approaching school grounds, and he was put into a desperate situation. What would’ve happened?

And keep in mind, there are people like Roberts everywhere. Embedded in certain places in our everyday lives. Acting like they truly belong, but potentially having questionable motives. This is exactly why Trump is doing what he’s doing and why ICE agents are dedicated to their jobs. To protect American citizens—as well as our fellow police officers—from such potential threats.

Kudos to the ICE agents in Iowa—along with local officers—for doing such a great job in locating Roberts before things could’ve gone far worse. My only hope is that this opens many eyes to the threats that are out there—and why these agents are doing what they’re doing.

I believe in my fellow officers, and given what’s happened here, I hope you get an idea of why so many others do as well.
