U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is enjoying a noticeable groundswell of congressional support in his quest to keep his position as Speaker. What’s noteworthy about that support is how much of it is coming from the Democratic party.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) whose Motion to Vacate Johnson’s chair is looming over the Speaker’s head, called attention to how Democratic leadership has rallied behind Johnson.
Greene tweeted a video showing former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), who twice impeached President Trump, is now giving her seal of approval to Johnson’s leadership.
Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY) echoed Rep. Greene’s concerns about the Uniparty rallying behind Johnson who has delivered very little on behalf of his GOP colleagues while passing numerous big-ticket Democratic items.
Massie shared a video clip of Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) endorsing saving the beleaguered Speaker for “doing the right thing.”
The Denver Gazette reports that Rep. Greene met with the Speaker for two hours on Monday to discuss a path forward regarding her Motion to Vacate. It remains unclear whether Johnson was open to the concessions demanded by Greene or whether the congresswoman was willing to drop the Motion to Vacate if Johnson would agree to changes.
Greene’s demands include:
Greene is meeting with Johnson again today although the Speaker downplayed their Monday meeting, telling reporters earlier today, “This is not a negotiation. This is how I’ve operated as speaker. I committed to do it before I became speaker, and I’ve been doing this for the last six months.”
Either way, with most House Democrats lining up to defend the Speaker, it’s likely that Greene’s Motion to Vacate will likely fail if a vote is taken this week.
