Senator Joe Manchin (I-W.V.) on Monday called on Joe Biden to pardon President-elect Donald Trump to make things “more balanced.”
Biden on Sunday signed a “full and unconditional pardon” for all offenses his son Hunter “may have committed” between 2014 and 2024, claiming that Hunter was “singled out only because he is my son.”
The West Virginia senator told CNN’s Manu Raju that he didn’t “know a father who wouldn’t have done the same thing,” but his recommendation to counsel would have been, “why don’t you go ahead and pardon Donald Trump for all his charges.”
Manchin said the move “would have gone down a lot more balanced, if you will.”
He added that the Hunter Biden pardon makes Biden’s legacy more “difficult.”
“I am just saying, wipe them out,” Manchin told CNN, meaning Trump convictions.
On Monday, Polymarket showed only an 8 percent chance that Biden will pardon Trump.
According to CNN, Jill Biden was a strong force behind the decision to pardon Hunter.
“We were told, really in recent weeks that Dr. Jill Biden, First Lady Jill Biden was very supportive of the president doing something like this because the president was not sure,” CNN National Affairs correspondent Jeff Zekeny reported Monday afternoon.
Most conservatives believe however that Biden always intended to pardon Hunter, the only question was the timing.
