The failed Harris/Walz campaign is facing new scrutiny after its crushing defeat by the Trump/Vance campaign, with one report taking a closer look at the true price tag of one of the Democrats’ flashiest celebrity events.

As Fox News reports, the campaign had previously paid $1 million, across two separate payments of $500,000, to Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Productions on October 15th. These payments were confirmed in filings by the Federal Election Commission (FEC). One month prior, Winfrey held a town hall event with outgoing Vice President Kamala Harris (D-Calif.). However, a new report from the New York Times, citing two anonymous sources, claims that the campaign may have paid Winfrey as much as $2.5 million.

Overall, the Harris campaign spent at least $1.5 billion over the course of its brief, 15-week run. The Democratic Party could be in debt to the tune of up to $20 million as a result of its many last-minute expenditures in Harris’ favor. Some of the more outrageous price tags claimed by Democrat donors, now seeking their money back, include $9,000 in ice cream and $15,000 in food delivery services like Uber Eats and DoorDash.

Another $2.6 million was spent on private jet travel alone. The campaign spent $900,000 to advertise on Las Vegas’ Sphere; she went on to lose Nevada to President-elect Donald Trump by a nearly 3-point margin, becoming the first Democratic presidential candidate to lose Nevada in 20 years.

But the Winfrey price tag has raised further concerns, as the talk show host herself had previously claimed she was “paid nothing” by the campaign. A spokesman for Harpo Productions admitted to the payments that were recorded by the FEC, claiming that these were simply meant to cover the “production costs” of the town hall. But, the spokesman claimed, “Oprah Winfrey was at no point during the campaign paid a personal fee, nor did she receive a fee from Harpo.”

The discrepancy of at least $1.5 million has thus raised questions as to whether or not similar, previously-unreported payments were made by the campaign in other instances as well.
