While questioning a witness during a House hearing Thursday, the Rep. Daniel Goldman (D-N.Y.) ludicrously suggested that the New York Post’s reporting on Hunter Biden’s laptop in the fall of 2020 was based on a hard drive that was “manipulated by Rudy Giuliani or Russia.”
The Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government held a hearing Thursday morning to examine the federal government’s involvement in social media censorship, including new revelations that U.S. and U.K. military contractors were recruited by the Obama regime to police speech on tech platforms almost immediately after the surprise election of Donald Trump in 2016.
Testifying before the committee for the second time this year, were Twitter Files journalists Matt Taibbi and Michael Shellenberger, as well as Rupa Subramanya, a Canada-based journalist with The Free Press. The Democrats’ witness, Olivia Troye, former Homeland Security Advisor and Counterterrorism Advisor in the Office of Vice President Mike Pence, testified that former President Donald Trump is the one who weaponized the federal government.
In his opening statement, Shellenberger testified that the “Censorship Industrial Complex,” a network of entities that include the Department of Homeland Security, government contractors, and Big Tech media platforms, have “conspired to censor ordinary Americans and elected officials alike for holding disfavored views.”
In an attempt to justify the government-sanctioned suppression of the New York Post’s bombshell exclusive on Hunter Biden’s laptop before the 2020 election, Goldman attempted to establish that the Post based its report on “manipulated” data.
“Mr. Shellenberger, you said the biggest problem you have with the censorship you talk about is election interference,” he began.
“You’ve talked about the Hunter Biden laptop and how the FBI knew it existed. You are aware of course that the ‘laptop’ so to speak that was published in the New York Post was actually a hard drive that the New York Post admitted here was not authenticated as real. It’s not the laptop the FBI had. You’re aware of that, right?” Goldman asked the journalist.
“It was the same contents,” Shellenberger replied, smiling.
“How do you know?!” Goldman shot back.
“Because everyone has verified it’s the same contents!” the journalist responded incredulously, while Goldman spoke over him.
Multiple news outlets, including the Washington Post, New York Times and CBS News have verified that scandalous content in the hard drive copy was authentic.
“You have no idea!” Goldman insisted. “You know hard drives can be manipulated.”
Still smiling in disbelief, Shellenberger asked, “are you suggested the New York Post participated in a conspiracy to construct the content of Hunter Biden’s laptop?”
“No sir,” Goldman replied. “The problem is, hard drives can be manipulated by Rudy Giuliani, or Russia,” he added.
When Shellenberger asked Goldman if he had any evidence for that, the Democrat replied, “well there is actual evidence of it but the point is it’s not the same thing.”
“So you’re engaging in a conspiracy theory,” Shellenberger quipped.
