The House Judiciary Committee voted on Tuesday to advance the “FACE Act Repeal Bill of 2025” which was introduced by Congressman Chip Roy (R-TX).

The bill would repeal the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act which Roy says has been weaponized to allow the Department of Justice DOJ to target pro-life Americans engaged in peaceful protests outside abortion clinics.

Roy decried the former administration’s prosecution of non-violent, pro-life Americans while seeking the harshest sentences, adding “Over the last four years, the Biden-Harris DOJ has shown more interest in catering to the anti-life movement than protecting facilities that support pregnant women in need.”

Roy stated, “Congress must fully repeal the FACE Act to ensure future administrations are unable to weaponize this statute against peaceful advocates.”

Republicans have also been vocal critics of the heavy-handed FBI raid to arrest pro-life activist Mark Houck who had defended his 12-year-old son by shoving a Planned Parenthood volunteer during a confrontation nearly a year earlier.

The father of seven was taken from his home at riflepoint, despite the FBI knowing that he was not armed or dangerous, and with multiple children at home at the time of the raid.

Rep. Roy cited data that 92% of FACE prosecutions during the Biden administration targeted anti-abortion demonstrators at abortion clinics while only only 8% involved attacks on pregnancy resource centers.

The Trump administration has already pardoned 23 individuals previously convicted under the FACE Act.

Roy said, “Passage of this bill is a crucial and necessary step. It eliminates the possibility that everyday Americans can face felony convictions for peaceful acts such as sidewalk counseling or singing hymns.”
