On Sunday, President Donald Trump announced that radio host and former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino will be serving as Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
As reported by Breitbart, President Trump made the announcement late Sunday night in a post on Truth Social, revealing that newly sworn-in FBI Director Kash Patel had chosen the firebrand commentator as his deputy.
“Great news for Law Enforcement and American Justice!” said President Trump in his post. “Dan Bongino, a man of incredible love and passion for our Country, has just been named the next DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF THE FBI, by the man who will be the best ever Director, Kash Patel.”
“Dan has a Masters Degree in Psychology from C.U.N.Y., and an MBA from Penn State,” the president continued. “He was a member of the New York Police Department (New York’s Finest!), a highly respected Special Agent with the United States Secret Service, and is now one of the most successful Podcasters in the Country, something he is willing and prepared to give up in order to serve.
In a post on X following the announcement, Bongino thanked President Trump, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Director Patel.
Bongino is the host of “The Dan Bongino Show,” a radio show that is simulcast on the video-sharing platform Rumble. Bongino gained more prominence when he was chosen to replace the late Rush Limbaugh in the coveted radio time slot of Noon to 3 PM EST. Bongino also previously ran for Congress on several occasions, including as the Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate in Maryland in 2012, and a narrow loss as the Republican nominee for Maryland’s 6th congressional district in 2014.
Bongino was previously considered a top candidate for President Trump’s Director of the United States Secret Service, given his background as a former Secret Service agent. However, the role was ultimately given to Sean Curran, the head of President Trump’s personal security detail who was onstage with the then-former president during his attempted assassination on July 13th, 2024.
