A new government report released on Tuesday reveals that the left-wing abortion provider Planned Parenthood received nearly $1.8 billion in taxpayer funding between the fiscal years 2019 and 2021, of which $90 million was in small business-designated loans during the Chinese Coronavirus pandemic.
According to the New York Post, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) report shows that the Planned Parenthood Federation of America was directly paid $1.54 billion through Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Another $148 million was given through grants from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and $90 million through Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans, which were intended to aid small businesses that were financially struggling due to the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns.
Republicans in Congress noted that PPP loans had been intended to help small businesses with 500 employees or less, even though Planned Parenthood employs approximately 16,000 people across its 600 centers nationwide. Lawmakers also expressed concerns that the abortion provider “illegally” applied for such financial assistance even though they did not qualify for it.
“It is appalling that big abortion providers are continuing to receive billions of dollars in federal taxpayer funding,” said Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) in a statement. “While small businesses struggled to make ends meet during the pandemic, Planned Parenthood illegally siphoned over $90 million from the Paycheck Protection Program, specifically designed to help our mom and pop shops keep their doors open.”
“Federal taxpayer dollars should not be funneled to big abortion corporations like Planned Parenthood, which has killed over 9.3 million unborn children since 1970, including 1.11 million between 2019-2021,” said Congressman Chris Smith (R-N.J.), co-chair of the House Pro-Life Caucus. “This money would have been better spent helping the businesses that were forced to close or providing comprehensive medical support for both women and children.”
In addition to the domestic funding, another $3.4 million was given to the International Planned Parenthood Federation – along with MSI Reproductive Choices and four other regional abortion providers – by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
In the fiscal year 2020, Planned Parenthood admitted in its own annual report to performing 383,460 abortions that year, the highest annual total ever on record.
