President-elect Donald Trump’s nomination of Kash Patel to head up the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is sparking deep concerns among some members of what Trump has called “The Swamp” in Washington D.C.
Politico reports that the White House is discussing preemptive pardons for Anthony Fauci, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) in an attempt to prevent them from facing accountability for corruption and the weaponization of government power.
Fauci, Schiff and Cheney have each been called out by Patel for their roles in Covid-19, Russiagate and the January 6 Committee.
Fauci has faced accusations of lying to Congress about gain-of-function research and the origins of Covid-19 as well as his use of a private email account to conduct government business.
Schiff, who was recently elected to the U.S. Senate, has been one of the chief promoters of conspiracy theories about Russian collusion with the Trump campaign during the 2016 election.
Cheney has been a leading instigator in accusing Trump of being an insurrectionist and seeking to tie him to the actions of rioters at the U.S. Capitol on Jan 6, 2021.
According to Politico, the push for blanket pardons, similar to the one spanning an 11 year period that Biden issued for his son Hunter Biden last week, is coming from Congressional Democrats who are fearful that Trump will launch criminal investigations after he assumes office.
Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) has gone so far as to suggest that the preemptive pardons are necessary because Trump chose Patel as his nominee to lead the FBI.
Playing the victim when called out for bad behavior is nothing new for the inhabitants of the D.C. swamp.
But nothing looks quite as suspicious as pushing for preemptive pardons for individuals who have yet to even be charged with a crime.
Who do they think they’re fooling?
