Just days after casting the deciding vote to approve warrantless spying on American citizens, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is describing himself as a “wartime speaker” without clarifying exactly in which declared war the U.S. is currently embroiled.
Johnson has faced serious pushback from conservative Republican members of Congress regarding his efforts to bring to the floor of the House separate bills funding aid for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan. Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Thomas Massie (R-KY) have both indicated a willingness to move forward on a Motion to Vacate the Speaker’s position.
Johnson also is stirring dissatisfaction among American voters who are wearying of growing U.S. military intervention in various trouble spots around the world.
Johnson was widely touted by Republican leadership as a principled choice for Speaker of the House when he was unanimously elected by Republican House members after the ousting of Kevin McCarthy in October of 2023. Now there are questions arising over whether Johnson is representing the American people or the D.C. establishment.
As American Greatness reported earlier this month, Tucker Carlson, in an interview with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, wondered aloud, “Is the Speaker of the House being blackmailed?” to compel his support of continual funding to Ukraine.
The embattled Speaker appears to have made his choice between loyalty to the Deep State Uniparty and the American voters.
