NextImg:Media Outlets Cut Coverage of Speaker Johnson’s G&A on Healthcare for Illegals

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is calling out media outlets for cutting off his remarks yesterday during a Q&A about Democratic demands to restore $200 billion in health care subsidies for illegal aliens.

Both CNN and MSNBC broke away from Johnson’s remarks during a press conference yesterday when the Speaker began citing the Democrat’s continuing resolution (CR) bill that contains $1.5 trillion in spending demands, including restoring $200 billion in taxpayer-funded health care benefits going to illegals.

Johnson had encouraged voters to check out Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s counter-proposal to the GOP’s CR, specifically directing viewers to got to page 57, section 2141, to see for themselves where Democrats advocate for repealing safeguards against waste, fraud, and abuse in health care from this year’s Working Families Tax Cut bill.

That’s when some media outlets cut away from the press conference, citing Democrat talking points and claiming that they were fact-checking the speaker.

Johnson emphasized that House Republicans had passed a “clean” CR two weeks ago to provide funding that would keep the government operating for the next 7 weeks as the House and Senate worked out differences on a long-term spending bill.

Senate Democrats have blocked that bill and demanded an additional $1.5 trillion in spending  that includes nearly $200 billion in healthcare subsidies for illegal aliens and other non-citizens.

In a post on X, Johnson wrote, “Senate Democrats have voted 3 TIMES to shut the government down. They refuse to give relief to American families—and INSTEAD they are trying to restore taxpayer-funded health care benefits for illegal aliens.”

The Speaker added, “Chuck Schumer says it’s a “talking point” but it’s in his OWN bill in black and white. Page 57, Section 2141.”

The impasse has led to a partial government shutdown for the past 3 days as Democrats continue to insist that they won’t pass a CR without their demands being met.

A frustrated Speaker Johnson pushed back against media attempts to mute his comments and to instead steer the narrative toward Democrat talking points, insisting that “the truth is a powerful thing” and inviting viewers to, “See for yourself.”

The press conference can be seen in its uncensored entirety below.
