A January 6 political prisoner who was liberated by President Donald Trump when he took office in January, has declared his candidacy for the U.S. Senate.

Jake Lang, a native New Yorker, was one of the more than 1,500 people charged with offenses related to the January 6 riot who received pardons from President Donald Trump in January. Lang spent four years in the DC Gulag and other federal prisons without a trial, and like many others, was subjected to beatings, solitary confinement, and other forms of torture.

“Today I am blessed by God to officially announce my candidacy for US Senate in the great State of Florida!!” Lang, 29, wrote on X Monday, adding that “the story of the January 6 Hostages isn’t over – it’s just begun!! The Golden Age of America is HERE.”

“WE ARE TAKING OVER THE CAPITOL AGAIN,” Lang declared.

Lang has reportedly filed paperwork to challenge Senator Ashley Moody in the 2026 special election. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Moody to the U.S. Senate seat in January 2025 when Marco Rubio resigned to become the United States secretary of state.

Like thousands of others who attended the rally on January 6, Lang had come to the U.S. Capitol to protest the rigged 2020 election.

Lang was arrested on January 16, 2021 and hit with a plethora of charges stemming from his activities at the brutal battle scene outside the entrance to the tunnel on the lower west side of the Capitol building, where police attacked the protesters and beat Rosanne Boyland to death.

He was charged  with “Civil Disorder; Assaulting, Resisting, or Impeding Certain Officers; Assaulting, Resisting, or Impeding Certain Officers Using a Dangerous Weapon; Obstruction of an Official Proceeding; Aiding and Abetting; Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in a Restricted Building or Grounds with a Deadly or Dangerous Weapon; Disorderly Conduct in a Capitol Building; Act of Physical Violence in the Capitol Grounds or Buildings.”

Lang, who was photographed wearing a gas mask, and wielding a shield and baseball bat, pled not guilty to all the charges.

He told American Greatness in January that he didn’t go to the rally with any of those items, explaining that he had been at a boardroom meeting the day before, and had attended the rally wearing business attire.

After witnessing Boyland being beaten to death, Lang said he “accumulated the gas mask, the riot shield and the baseball bat” and used them “as defensive measures against the murderers.”

“I wasn’t willing to have any other unarmed women or elderly men be pummeled and brutalized to death,” he said. Boyland had died, he said, “virtually in my arms.”

Lang told American Greatness that he found the gas mask on the ground near the tunnel. The shield and baseball bat, he said, were being “passed around.”

“About a dozen defendants were charged with using that same baseball bat,” he explained, adding that he had been standing there with the riot shield trying to defend himself and others around him from the pepper spray when a suspected antifa agitator handed him the baseball bat.

Lang said he went on to use the baseball bat like “a caveman” would use a torch to ward off “a pack of wolves.”

“I used the bat in this sweeping motion to kind of push back and keep at bay the advance of the Capitol Police that were on a baton death march to kill people,” he said.

“For 1467 days I sat inside the Biden Regime’s horrific Political Prisons, Lang said in his announcement Monday.

During an interview with the Phoenix earlier this week, Lang insisted that he has a chance against Florida’s current senator and twice-elected attorney general, arguing that she
isn’t that well known outside of political circles.

Lang noted that a University of North Florida poll published last month showed that a majority of Florida voters had never heard of Ashley Moody, and called the potential race against her “round two” of the DeSantis-Trump GOP presidential primary battle of 2023-2024.

“There is the DeSantis camp, which is the RINO establishment uniparty, which is what everyone recognizes his 2024 presidential bid was a betrayal of President Trump and the Make America Great movement. And so, Ashley Moody represents the old school Ron DeSantis/Jeb Bush/Paul Ryan/Mitch McConnell wing of the Republican Party,” he said.
