Joe Biden insulted at least half of the voters in the United States during in a campaign call with Latino voters Tuesday evening, effectively calling all of Trump supporters “garbage” humans.
Biden, like the Harris Campaign, was seizing on insult comic Tony Hinchcliffe’s joke about Puerto Rico being a “floating island of garbage” during his routine at former President Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden on Saturday.
“Donald Trump has no character. He doesn’t give a damn about the Latino community,” Biden reportedly said in a Zoom call with the organization Voto Latino. “Just the other day, a speaker at his rally called Puerto Rico a floating island of garbage.”
He added: “In Puerto Rico where I’m fr—in my home state of Delaware, they’re good, decent, honorable people. The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters.”
Biden added, “his demonization of [ unclear] is unconscionable and it’s unamerican.”
Biden, who has largely disappeared from public view in recent weeks, took part in the Zoom call to urge Latino voters to cast their ballots early.
During Trump’s rally in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Tuesday night, Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) alerted Trump and his thousands of supporters that Biden had just called them “garbage.”
“Just moments ago, Joe Biden stated that our supporters are garbage,” Rubio told the stunned crowd, as Trump shook his head sadly. “He’s talking about the Border Patrol, he’s talking about nurses, he’s talking about teachers … he’s talking about everyday Americans who love their country and want to dream big again, and support you, Mr. President.”
“And I hope their campaign is about to apologize for what Joe Biden just said. We are not garbage. We are patriots who love America, and thank you for running, Mr. President,” Rubio added.
Performing mop-up for Biden, a White House spokesperson claimed he was talking about Hinchcliffe, the comedian who made the joke. The “Kill Tony” host is known for his insulting brand of humor.
Trump, himself, distanced himself from Hinchcliffe after his jibe drew a widespread, bipartisan backlash.
